you missed out Rashford who looked likely to miss out this year

Billy Gilmour is Scottish DJ, doubt we can nab him.

Would have been a nice problem, the kid is going to the very top!

The extra 12 months may allow him to break into the Scotland XI, win them the play-offs and play against England next summer.

The Euros

Was really looking forward to them this year. I think an extra year suits England. Obviously Kane and Rashford's potential injuries would have been a hugely detrimental.

Hopefully Gomez can establish himself at CB next to Maguire, and Chilwell can improve with another year.

CM is the one area I don't see getting much better. Rice and Winks are average and our best CM, Henderson will be a year older.

Interesting thread.

Don't see Henderson (GK) or Barkley being included, and Saka entirely depends on Arteta's use of him. Greenwood the same with Ole, but I'd say unlikely.

Jordan Henderson will definitely be there although I still don't rate him at all in the England side.

One thing I do like about Southgate is he seems to consider form in his selections, and that element is difficult to predict.

Dean Henderson surely will be ahead of Heaton at least? Depending on who he plays for and how much game time he gets, I can see him being ahead of Pope too, and Pickfords main rival.

You may well be right but as you said, game time is a problem for him.

It's a problem area for the side I think and a lot will depend on whether Southgate sees Pickford as his long term GK.

If he doesn't then you'd like to think he'll start looking around and trying new options.

There are a few about who probably need injuries to go their way. Phil Foden, Reece James, Dwight McNeil has been consistently good for Burnley, could even someone like Chris Smalling play himself back into consideration?

Foden is a fascinating one.

If he can't establish himself in the first team next season then you have to ask if City is the right club for him.

I was thinking about Smalling. By all accounts he's had a very good season.

Some outside chances who I've been thinking recently might be in contention next summer:

Jude Bellingham
Jack Grealish
James Garner
Harvey Elliott

Apart from Grealish, these are all remote possibilities. We'll see. Stranger things have happened in football.

26 appearances so far in a season cut short, but I'm not sure how many from the bench. He's got the talent for sure but he needs to be a regular first team top flight starter. I reckon a spell in La Liga would suit him.

1085 minutes across all competitions for Foden.
David Silva is retiring though, so maybe he will be given more opportunities next season.

That stat is so misleading though isn't it, when you look at all the cameos.

Pep hasn't demonstrated that he trusts him yet and we wait to see if he feels he can tolerate room for youth development in his team.

Very few youth players can become a first team regular without some initial ups and downs, and he'll need to accept that as a manager.

For Joe Gomez it may be a case of staying fit. His second challenge will be the undisputed first choice partner for van Dijk at Liverpool. Then he will surely be an England starter? Only 8 caps so far, the extra year could see him move ahead of John Stones as Harry Maguires partner for Euro 2020.

-----------------

He was going to the World Cup as a starter in the RCB position of a back 3 before injury so I think there is every chance he will be in and around the team if he stays fit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he will 100% be in the squad if fit. It is more a case of whether he has established himself as a starter by then or not. Injuries have obviously hampered his progress in this regard for England.

Ox may benefit from the delay. He's up & down for us this season but popped up with some goals. If he can stay fit, I'd say he makes the squad at least.

Loftus-Cheek, another one who may benefit from the delay if he can regain fitness and form.

You can't be serious?!

But, yes, a fit Ox gets in - his versatility should be enough to guarantee a spot.

I would love to have seen more of RLC - I think he could have been a fantastic player for Chelsea and England.
