Television rebate

Liverpool are right if thats the case, prob best for sky and bt to reject the refund and just take the rights to finish the remaining fixtures. More viewing figures is probably meaning more advertising and remain on good terms.

posted on 28/5/20

It’s not that simple as they’ve secured these rights until the end of next season.

Liverpool leading the the rest of the Prem is becoming a common thing now. We will end up rubbing many people the wrong way and then get thrown under the bus

The club's have not broken any contract. The government mandated a complete shut down.

The issue is clubs surviving here. A lot of the chatter I read on this seems to be that certain fans don't want behind closed doors and certain fans have a right whine about not watching it.

Ok so. So whilst many business keep cash reserves for this sort of thing, not all but sone. They call it a contingency.

That’s not for the likes of Liverpool or premier league teams who get at least 100m+ per season, without including sponsorship.

If we were talking about yeovil then maybe, you might have a point. But Liverpool, reigning CL champs?

If they have overspent than that’s their problem. Not the governments, especially with the cash draw they have.

Anything else is pure hypocrisy

----------------------------------------------------------------------
seriously????

go think about what you've said.

300million in wage obligations and 120mil min loss from revenue best case. clubs don't have 300mil cash on hand to last until crowds are let back in even at the top of the prem.

then go to league 1 and tell me how any club pays the wages there from behind closed doors.

actually go look at a balance sheet before making statement like that.

I will be very surprised if Sky in particular enforce any rebate. They’re positioned to come out of this very well, with talks that they’ll be allowed to show every remaining PL game not reserved for BT free of charge on their free-to-air channels.

Given the performance of the bundelisga last weekend (500k+ viewers per game in some cases when the average Bundesliga audience is in the low 5 figures), it’s clear there’s a huge appetite for any live sport, and whomever holds the rights when the PL resumes in June and July is going to have the golden goose.

Sky have lost millions due to this, having had to pause subscriptions, well I say pause but really people have been allowed to keep their subscription but not pay for it.

It appears they are trying to claw this back although this goes against any logic and it only stands to hurt them long term.

Does the OP have a link to this or is it just newspaper talk?

What about the games they're showing? Are they taking back money, then paying it out again, based on the games they show?

Just given this a read. Seems they're after a refund against a perceived loss of value, but are still looking to broadcast more games due to the 3pm restriction being lifted, which seems counter intuitive.
It's also worth noting that the TV deal for this season was worth 9 billion, which does make the rebate seem pretty nominal.
However I do for once have to agree with Liverpool's stance on this. The quality of the product may have been altered, but the viewing demand will surely be increased

"The quality of the product may have been altered, but the viewing demand will surely be increased"

Which brings up the fact that they will receive more subscriptions than they would have otherwise. How many people will purchase Sky, knowing they can't use their season ticket? You would think at least a million across the UK. A monthly subscription to Sky, including Sky Sports is around £100. That's an extra billion on top of what they will already receive, considering a 12 month contract.

I normally use PPV on Nowtv for matches I’m not at, away games etc if they’re on telly.

I’d buy The month if they put all the games on.

absolutely
from a logical point of view the only way the rebates can be justified is by submitting a hard based evidence to support their claims. They cannot claim for loss in earnings due to a situation and at the same time ignore the potential windfall.

There are clear clauses in the contracts that shows that games not delivered per schedule (ridiculous from prem given the possibility of snow) and not to the qulaity (no crowds)

any of us if we owned sky would try to get money back. of course we would.

I know

I was saying that I only usually pay for Skysports sporadically. If they put all the games on next month I’d pay for the full month. Giving them extra revenue. I’d imagine there’s a lot that’d do the same.

On the bright side, it would seem that football behind closed doors will rid JA606 of those turds who are dead set against the idea.

At least for 12 months or so.

Ah. Do you not find that expensive for just watching a few games?

“ Ah. Do you not find that expensive for just watching a few games?”

Depends how often we’re on. If I’m able to watch or not due to family etc. If I’ve gone the pub to watch. I’m at home games so it’s only aways.

If there’s a run of 3 or so away games I’ll pay for the month.

It's not streams. It's IPTV. There is no cutout. Well probably on crap ones but not on good ones.
