But how do you know anyone is just posting the square?
Why be so quick to judge others and assume the worst in them?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've not judged anyone specifically for just posting a square.
But you surely cannot deny that is exactly what many, many people will do.
To be honest, the whole concept is hogwash. It achieves absolutely nothing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just sounds like gatekeeping to me
Would feather encourage people for getting engaged than try shame a meager effort or try make myself feel superior
Yeh, and that's the easy position to take, isn't it?
Let's all make ourselves feel good with a meaningless gesture and then move on.
I'm not trying to make myself feel superior. I'm giving my opinion.
Youngsters like to be part of something. And while a black box may be the most many actively do, there will be some who see their peers 'involved' in this and then take further steps beyond a black box.
It turns events on the news from another country into something everyone can take part in.
The smallest things can spark people into action.

I really don't agree.
What would prompt an action is links to reading material on the subject, links to petitions, links to donate, writing to MPs.
Encouraging people to look within their businesses at the position of people from all backgrounds and seeking change.
Taking to people about the language they use and how subtle differences may not even be noticed.
Actually accepting that even if you don't feel that you're a 'racist', that you may have subconscious bias that has formed within the society you've grown up in.
It's not aimed at everyone, not at all.
But no question in my mind, these hashtags and crap are put together by people who like to feel they've done something, like to project the right image, but aren't actually willing to give any time, money or input into solving what are very complicated issues.

You don't need to try you just blinder about this site claiming to know better than everyone
Do you think any post you've made on this thread has had a positive influence on anyone? I'm sure you tried but do you think your style really gets through to anyone?
CrouchEndGooner (U13531)
Not at all - if that's your interpretation and you want to make it personal then that's your problem, not mine.
I wasn't intending to have a positive influence on this thread, I was intending to give my opinion.
If you want to have a grown up conversation about the actual topic then great. If you just want to have a pop at me because you disagree then thanks but no thanks.
I'm sorry you feel attacked but you've managed to make this entire thread about you so what do you expect?
I don't feel attacked and believe me, I'd rather people didn't make it about me but that says more about the gang of Liverpool fans than it does about me.
Now, do you want to discuss the topic or me?

Your conversation with Crouchend, to which he was referring to when he said you were making it all about you, had nothing to do with LFC fans.
Don’t know why you’re bringing up into a conversation that has nothing to do with us.

I'm saying this only became about me when multiple Liverpool fans decided to get involved and make it about me.
I'm not getting into a long drawn out debate about it with you. I'm sure you disagree. Frankly, the behaviour by many on this thread has been pathetic, considering the seriousness of it.

The lack of self awareness is astounding. Yet again many people are disagreeing with you about something, independent of one another, yet again here you are blaming everyone else.
Imagine being so egocentric to tell people participating in this black out thing won’t make a difference. How do you know what difference it will or won’t make to people?

The first one.
"The lack of self awareness is astounding."
Said without a hint of irony.
You're really not worth my time, Fields.
You make points that you don't have the intelligence to understand the answers to, so we end up in a never ending circle of debate that gradually becomes more pathetic and childish by the page.
You don't understand that there's a difference between disagreeing on the subject matter and making a thread about me.
You are utterly incapable of accepting that there may be an alternative view to your own that is valid and logical.
Time and time again you jump in with an incorrect interpretation of what has been said and don't stop to think why that might be. Could it be that you're desperately looking for disagreement?
Quite why I devoted so much time to trying to debating these points with you, when you clearly don't have the capacity or the self awareness to understand, I don't know - far better things to be doing.
Enjoy your pathetic arguments, that's obviously what you're here for.
Winston, you said this in reply to me:
"What would prompt an action is links to reading material on the subject, links to petitions, links to donate, writing to MPs."
Then you also said:
"I don't click on external links"
So why do you think people will click on links to what you want them to look at?
All that is second step. Posting links will be skipped over by most. But seeing all your friends turning their profile black will get most people questioning why. A few will then go onto the next step. A few will do it for social acceptance and some will just ignore it and carry on. But it is a start. And you need a start to everything.
DJ
Sorry but that's simplism kicking in there.
What you don't see, with these meaningless social media posts, is the good that could have been done, but hasn't, because people have been persuaded to believe that posting a black box is somehow contributing.
If these didn't exist then people who genuinely want to contribute may actually be encouraged to do something of value.

I don't click on links on here.
On Facebook the link will be verified and show a thumbnail.
As I said, I simply don't agree with you.
What has happened after the lovely messages after Caroline Flack died? Anything of note come from the #bekind hasgtag, or is society just back to doing what it's always been doing?
Sorry if you feel this is cynical, but I've spent a lot of my life actually doing things about problems like this and I think these social media things obstruct more constructive action than they help start.
But most people skip over links on facebook too.
It is very simplistic because it is the first step. Raise awareness.
The next step is education, but unless people know the issue and want to be educated they won't click links.
Explain how you think they're more obstructive than constructive

No argument to make so resort’s today insulting intelligence again. This is all very predictable and the conduct we’ve come to expect the from you. This maybe is why you get banned from the site.
“ You are utterly incapable of accepting that there may be an alternative view to your own that is valid and logical.”
When your opinions are plucked out your rsehole yes. For example.
You look at the gesture of LFC players taking a knee in solidarity with what’s going on and say, “yeah well they could be doing more”. You haven’t got a clue what they do towards political/social causes that feel passionate about
You look at the blackout thing and say “yeah well it won’t make a difference”. Despite social causes and people coming together and making a difference throughout history. Then you have this bizarre list of things people should be doing, not considering they may do these things already.
Keep telling people what they should be doing and what they have done doesn’t make a difference. Because that really IS how you make a difference
