The better Bairstow got at white ball cricket the worse he got in red ball. His technique is too open for tests, hence why he gets bowled so much.
He'd have been no use today.

Bairstow has never been poor. Hes our best player. Criminal hes not in the squad tbh

Anderson has been different gravy for england, that economy rate is exceptional. Going to be missed hugely and convinced we would have won the ashes should he have been fit.
Opening the bowling with Archer is completely the wrong call. Even worse than batting him as high as 9. You bring him in for short spells bowling as quick as possible mixing up the lengths. Not rocket science.
None of our bowlers bound really trouble Smith in the Ashes apart from Archer’s spell at Lord’s
Would jimmy have troubled him ?
Not too fussed with Archer opening, he’s our quickest bowler, nothing wrong with having a short burst with the new nut. It does look like the Windies batsmen have the measure of him at the moment though.

Coming off for light has got to be the biggest sham in sport. They’re literally coming back on after 10 minutes.
