It’s reputation, isn’t it? Sometimes you do something once or a couple of times and it just stays with you on here.
I’m sure we could all think of a few examples.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course it is. It’s just similar to real life. There’s posters we remember or categorise a certain way because of something they’ve said, or even who they support quite possibly in some cases.

Similarly, posters that are closer outside of the forum will view each other differently, and react differently to comments.

C’est la vie.

There is too much at times just now, correct but not if everyone had electric tomorrow - fact.

Wrong to single out Greta - it's just she is the most celeb.

The economic bit comes from the extension of the demand. Assume we had the electricity, assume the cars were affordable, assume the infrastructure for flat dwellers existed, assume we all bought one tomorrow there'd be a bigger environmental problem with disposing of 100s millions zero value lumps of metal and the loss to the economy that it represents. Suddenly every car owner is £(insert notional trade in value here) 'down' - that's £380bn in the UK alone if we were to assume an average £10k value to every car or similar to what they think Covid-19 will cost. Nothing about the infrastructure costs either.

Now, as we are fooking the world slowly all bar a few nutters believe in and want to get there. The argument is only about the journey.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was going to ask for a source for your claim on there not being enough electricity, but you said fact so you must be right.

Let's do some maths:
Average annual distance a car travels in the UK pet year: 11480 km
Real-world efficiency of Nissan Leaf, UK's most popular electric car: 16.8 kWh/100km
Average annual energy consumption per Nissan Leaf: 6.7 GJ
Number of cars on UK roads: 23,000,000
Average power consumption if every car was a Nissan Leaf: 4.9 GW
National Grid capacity in 2020: 72.9 GW
Current power usage: 26 GW
Expected peak demand: 65 GW

Seems like we'd cope just fine! Whilst there are other logistical problems concerning electric cars, the grid being able to handle it is not one of them, especially as most cars will be charging over night when the price of electricity regularly goes negative. That'll only become more true as we end up with more and more wind power. We're already paying them to switch turbines off at night because there's too much power. How mad is that!?

Nobody is actually suggesting immediately switching to electric cars and scrapping all cars on the road - that's obviously not a sensible policy. I don't even know what your point is there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ooooo math too. My number was 38m registered cars BTW.

It is all irrelevant. The infrastructure and smart charging does not exist NOW and that is when the green lobby want this change - you heard Greta, right?

Oh, and all the fossil generation switched off, nuclear too. Also NOW.

Actually now the grid IS fckd.

Context is everything. That is the kind of extremism that switches Clapham omnibus man off.

Pointless argument on electric cars as, apart from a few teslas they look schitt.

Make them look better and secksier than fossil fuelled efforts and demand will go through the roof.

Atm they are for guys who look like larry david and wear courderoy jackets and socks with sandals

It's what most have been saying for long enough.
If you're my mate and you're being attacked on here for stating something stupid I'll defend you or at least keep quiet.

It happens everyday, then to deflect 'The Clique' patter is trotted out.

Of course people who know each other offsite and socialise are going to have bias, to say differently is to admit to being either stupid or naive.

It is what it is.

Even being a pest can be considered racist. Not all black men destroy your wife. She might like a chinese schlang once in a while

You ever consider that

Fair enough, I got my figures from the MOT tests, but presumably that's neglecting cars younger than 3 years old.
Although number of registered vehicles also neglects SORN, which is now around 5 million! Obviously they don't get driven, unless the owner is very naughty.
Your number is registered vehicles - of which there are 32 million cars. Found data showing 2.8 million of these are SORN, so we're at around 29.8 million cars on the road in the UK.
So multiply my number my 29.8/23, then add 20% for the inefficiency of charging: 7.6 GW.
It's still not exactly melting the grid, but a fair amount of power. Certainly not undoable of course, even now.

I'm not arguing for extremism, it's just all too often I hear the argument "Well they want change now, but we're not ready for change now so let's not change anything at all". Ignoring the only way we can actually prepare for change is to... change.

Lots of countries are doing much better than we are. Denmark is more than 100% renewable these days and we have the wind capacity to do the same. One bizarrely crap nation is the Netherlands. A place known for windmills and hippies is not one you'd expect to be lagging behind on green power.

NG guys are confident we can do it but with assumptions of take up and renewables - I get that. I personally think and hope that Hydrogen will replace battery and that will be much easier generated, distributed, meet consumer needs and concerns. Gas networks will probably change to H2 also - there's a pilot already running a 20% blend.

On the Dutch, their problem is population density - the highest of any major Euro country. Developers only want big, efficient on-shore turbines.

Don't know if I'm going a bit tinfoil hat here, but does anyone think that some of the more universally derided actions by the media in recent times (Fawlty Towers, Gone With the Wind, removing white voice actors) has been orchestrated to drive a wedge between the lower classes again?
The BLM movement this time seems to have had a lot of support from all backgrounds this time around, which is extremely dangerous to those with money and power. What better way to destroy that support than to show things going "too far"?

Or have corporations co-opt the message.

I think white people should be surveyed to find out what black people want and need.
