Interesting article on world economy

Devastated to hear that no detailed work has been done yet on Boris' Scotland to Ireland bridge.

It's almost as if it's not really a serious proposal.

Does anybody really believe that we will soon look back on this and say to themselves “wtf were we thinking about shutting down the entire economy and forcing the entire population to stay indoors for so long?”

I do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think there will be a lot of lessons to be learned so that next time - and it might be decades away - we approach it with a more cohesive and clear approach.

It's an unprecedented situation and we need more localised approaches in future.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's easy with hindsight

But for a "next time" absolutely spot on.

I think I've just agreed with Ivan

Maybe not if you happen to have a loved one who passed away, in that case I think you will look back on a horrible virus that took away your loved one and might be wanting answers on just where the virus came from etc...and where your loved on may have contracted the disease that killed them and did our govt do enough and do the bes they could.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think that applies to any death of a loved one from a horrible disease or virus, or even accident.

"Why him/her?"

I look back and think if we had bothered doing what was best from the start we wouldn't of had to of shut down the economy for so long and left people indoors.

simple things like

TESTING

locking down when everyone else did

TESTING

making 14 day self quarantine mandatory when entering the country

TESTING

making sure we had a track and trace system in place at the containment stage

testing

knowing that the virus was hitting the most vulnerable people hardest, we should've been protecting them a lot better

tes....

just not told lies really, the messaging to the public was mixed, Cummings should've been sacked

We simply didn't have the facilities.

It can be argued (and here I agree with you) that it should have been a much higher priority in which case we would be further down the road and "may" have saved lives.

if we shut the country down 2 weeks earlier (even a week if you listen to SAGE members) we would've saved at least half of the lives

the fact we were watching the tragedy in Italy whilst still letting people saunter back in to the country from Italy and on to public transport without testing/quarantine etc was a joke

I don't think we could've got it anymore wrong if we tried again

see if they came out and went look we've made a complete mess of this, we've cost x amount of lives I'd have a bit of respect for them

but they continue to peddle this we done great etc back slapping, it's disrespectful to the dead and their grieving families

Bradford Council
@bradfordmdc
Just to calm everyone down a bit…
There's no new COVID-19 spike in Keighley.
@MattHancock
confused Keighley with a different area on TV and radio this morning.
Please keep maintaining social distance & washing hands so we don’t need to announce a local outbreak in the future.

Hmm

Fully agree we should have locked down earlier. As for "experts" telling us how many lives would have been saved - poppycock. They've fwcked up their estimates and made wild assumptions based on flawed modelling time and time again, so I have little faith in any of their next guesstimates.

I do however acknowledge that a quicker lockdown would have prevented the bandwidth of spread which in turn caused deaths. How many? Nobody knows.

Closing down foreign visitors was a no brainer and makes the decision by Patel 3 weeks ago look completely baffling.

As for back slapping ; they have to be positive. I've listened to Sturgeon who presents better than anyone else but offers nothing different other than more caution. I listened to the Welsh minster yesterday and he sounded more like Frasier from Dad's Army. Truly awful.

I've always acknowledged that

Thing is that nobody actually bothers to ask what I believe or think, far less want.

They just lazily label me as some mad Tory determined to stomp all over any social ideas or anyone other than far right wing.

It goes with the territory but says far more about them than me.

Hey ho.

Frasier from Dad's Army. An interesting mash up of comedies there.

I'd like to see one with the old boy from Steptoe in a Friends episode.
