Everyone else's suggestions are better than mine. My fragile self-esteem is going to take a beating today.

Red Russian.

Could I also throw another name in there?

As Matth is Welsh he could go for Roy Ci-ne. 'Ci' being the Welsh word for Dog.

(Just putting on my language geek hat for a moment.) Any idea how closely/distantly related the Celtic and Latin language groups are? The Welsh for dog isn't a million miles away from the French 'chien'.

Welsh is a Brythonic language and this link has some interesting (if you're into that kind of thing) information - https://welearnwelsh.com/words/15-welsh-words-french-latin/

The Corgi dog breed has its name roots in Welsh as well:

The term "Corgi" means either cur dog or dwarf dog (cor = dwarf, gi = lenitive of ci, dog) in the Welsh language, which was not intended as an insult to the dog's size, rather as a purely descriptive term.
