Dier was at his best playing alongside Dembele in midfield and dropping back in to make a 4 or 3 at the back when the fullbacks raided forward. He fitted that role perfectly, unfortunately those quality fullbacks and the beast that was Dembele are no longer here so his role has changed.
He has improved his form of late but I`m not sure he will make a top class CB, he is best used as a squad utility man imo.

I was thinking of the Burnley defence but I do think Dyche has a good part to play in them looking solid. Look at Keane for an example.
