Hard to be convinced of anyone's genuine 'potential' in this weirdest of seasons - weird for most clubs, and not just because of covid-19 - but he is definitely promising.
It is all sadly relative though.
He might look "promising" because there is nowt else at the club (except perhaps an ageing Ighalo) worthy of starting up front. Certainly not against experienced defenders who can always be capable of reducing rashford to the journeyman he undoubtedly is. The club had the same problem with Welbeck, and that situation went on way too long.
Hope Greenwood develops, but this season is not really the best one to judge anyone by.
Buy Sancho, sell Greenwood to Juve, watch Sancho bomb, sell him to PSG, then buy Greenwood back from Juve for £80m and play him out of position in a midfield double pivot.
Something about shirt sales from all of this leaving us in profit.
Etc.

Greenwood’s in very good company here. Owen was ridiculous as a teenager.
---------------------------------------------
It would be interesting to compare their minutes per goals.
The way he's going he might finish closer to Owen than Fowler which would be some achievement.
He's ridiculous.
Sancho’s gonna have a hard time benching Greenwood.
Don’t know how many minutes they played. But I’m pretty certain all of those players started a lot more games than Greenwood, especially Owen and Rooney.

I mean...he’s really not to be honest! Sancho comes in, he’s our automatic RW. Greenwood will still play as much as he needs to mind, but Sancho is a superior player currently, much as we’re all enjoying the (justified) Greenwood love in
We should let Fergie manage for a game just to see that front six.
Yeah I wasn’t being serious.
this season he has 8 goals in 920 PL minutes, 115 mins per goal, which is better than everyone else in the PL with 8 goals or more, with the sole exception of aguero - who, ridiculously, will finish the season with a goal every 91 minutes.

That’s just unreal from Greenwood.
He’s superb. It’s not just his finishing. He’s very cool and calm in possession, technically very good and just doesn’t give the ball away cheaply at all. He’s got everything in his locker to be a top player, and you always sense that when he gets a shot off - on either foot (or is it “side&rdquo - it’ll somehow end up in the net. He also looks more physically equipped at this level with some extra strength and a little extra explosiveness over the first few yards.
For me it's not just the things he can do but it's the speed in which he can do them. He's so well balanced that he never looks out of control.
At the moment, he’s comfortably outperforming Martial and Rashford.
If Sancho were to arrive tomorrow, it should be Greenwood, Sancho (on the left) and one of Martial or Rashford up top.
That’s the advantage of Sancho. If Rashford is playing like a cuuuuunt he can stick him there and play Greenwood on the right.
I think we’ll see Greenwood through the middle more next season than we’ve seen this year.
It’s annoying that we probably won’t be playing in the league cup. Could have used those games to get Greenwood in the middle more often.
Looks the nuts, doesn’t he.
How wonderful when a kid comes through and gets a chance, and takes it.
Man Utd is starting to feel like Man Utd again.
Time for a beer!

I wouldn’t be rushing to play him through the middle, tbh.
He often looked most dangerous playing in the kind of areas he’s playing in right now for the U18s and U23s, where he has a bit more space to work in and can play on the half turn and facing goal, running at defenders.
I don’t think playing him there in cup games is rushing him. I just think Ole will give him more game time there next season as he sees him as a number 9. He won’t improve in that position unless he plays there. He can still play plenty of games on the right as well. Get Grealish and the attacking quality, and depth, in our squad will be one of the best in the league next season.

Why does he have to improve in that position though? Why can’t he continue to develop in the position he’s demonstrated he’s best suited to and is performing excellently in?
Because he’s going to be a striker for Manchester United.
2 quality strikes today. I don't think it can be said enough how impressive it is that both strikes were so pure but taken with different feet
