Thiago Silva How old is he now, 40 odd?

Would be an absolute disaster in the PL.

Says he's 35 I think. Not feeling that move then DJ?

Okay so he's Brazilian, AFC fans aren't interested and he'd be a disaster...

So just like David Luiz then.

Could have the same effect as Blanc did at United and help the younger defenders as Blanc helped Rio.

We're fine for centre backs. If we try to get a new one it should be a long-term upgrade like Upamecano. Even Mustafi is doing well under Arteta.

Thiago Silva would be a waste of a squad space and wages. He's 35 ffs.

Isn’t silva quite injury prone as well

Thiago will be a free transfer so 250 k a week for one season is no big financial loss. And you can't put a price on what he could potentially impart knowledge wise to our younger ones. I'd certainly rather HE taught them how to defend, than DL. There's also the chance that having him around might make DL play decently all next season. He'll definitely tell him to get of the free kicks because there's better people

Bet people would moan if we signed Messi and say he's too old.

Silva is a terrific leader. Can’t hurt to have a former world class defender for a short period of time

Or we could use the 250k a week on other players.

Yeah because 13 million will go a long way toward that won't it.

Seems a bit mad to me, he's a ball playing centre back and knows how to win but that's where the positives end

How much would we be paying him?

It'll get us thirteen million pounds closer, yeah.

£13m a year in wages is a massive handicap on what we will be able to do in the transfer market.

No MF is where we HAD the biggest issue. It's not there now, hence the improvement in results and league position after just a few months of coaching from Arteta. He never actually had to do that much after dropping the deadweight. Arteta will get plenty more out of them creatively soon enough and easily enough, it's literally HIS thing as a player. CB is a different story. We CANNOT afford to go into next season will DL as the leading influence in what Saliba, Holding and Chambers are learning. Nor do we need their progress hampered by his bloody random calamities stuffing up games they've done well in.

We need BETTER. But we also want oldish. Saliba, Holding and Chambers ALL need to play plenty. Now if we can get a top WC winning CB, who can still cut it, only wants a year and has already played in the PL, for 13 mil. By all means go get him. But if not Silva is IDEAL for the role we need played here. It's 13 million to have three players who will play for the next seven to ten years, taught by one of the very best teachers they could get. DL is an Achilles Heel going forward, GOT to sort that as a priority and for once start the building on a solid foundation not a massively flawed one.

We have plenty of okish CB options, don't need another. Invest everything in the midfield.

We're at a stage where we need top class options to really elevate the first team. If we can't do that at CB, then don't bother.

We are crying for a proper number 10. Most, if not all our attack is coming from the flank. We need to bring diversity to it.
By the look of it, Arteta is doing well with the defence. Not great yet but not as bad as under Wenger or Emery.
However, we are not scoring or creating enough.

Not a number ten per se, but a midfielder with an engine who can create and score would be ideal

Almost everything you say about the defence can be applied to the MF. We need much better than we have if we ever want to start running games again. And no matter how much of a decent midfielder Arteta was, and whatever potential he has as a coach, he ain't turning Xhaka and Willock into Xavi and Iniesta.

Midfield is the weakest area of our squad, before you even get to the apparent uncertainties over the futures of Geundouzi and maybe Torreira, and the fact that one of the better players is only on loan.

We head into next season with the current CB lineup and you can forget progress. All the Mfs we have barr Xhaka and Ozil are youngsters who will improve for sure. In contrast HALF of our CBs are total liabilities who can and REGULARY DO, blow an entire games effort in one idiot moment at the back. And THEY'RE the supposedly the experienced ones, leading and teaching our future players. Also, they definitively WILL NOT get any better, only worse and more unreliable than they are already.

We needed CBs last season and bought Pepe remember. Part of the reason this season has gone so poorly, we not only kept the two calamity CBs we had but we added a bloody third. Pointless to repeat the exact same mistake again now by going once again and buying MFs whilst leaving calamity CBs in the squad, starting games week in and out. You guys are asking/expecting way too much of an incoming, new to the PL Saliba. To arrive and be the stabilising influence in this defence. I just hope you all remember this when you're ripping him to shreds. Slating him for not being good enough to carry all these calamities alongside him and still make our defence top notch. I know you won't though.

I wonder if the poor kid he knows he's about to spend the next year of his life getting slated by a bunch of fans who want to blame him for the incompetence of his seniors. After they all called for him to get lumbered with them only in the first place.
