I do think saying you’re ‘not far off’ Liverpool’s level is a bit over the top. In last two seasons they’ve won CL, PL and are pushing high 90s points in PL for both seasons. Only lost three times in that period: I know I’m just stating obvious facts..but when you sit back and appreciate it you realise how high a level they’re performing at.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
there is currently a 37 point gap for a reason, I mean the table doesn't lie after all.

Utd certainly look better since Bruno has come in and they look to have a fully fit squad at mo which helps.

Greenwood also looks a talent

37 points though, come on now.

I would worry more about chelsea If I were utdplus you need to get top 4/5.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
you cant keep using the 37 point gap ffs

leicester went from fighting relegation to making up a 40 point gap and winning the league.

after 38 games we are all on a level playing field again, your 35 point gap counts for feck all
----------------------------------------------------------------------
well it is relevant if you want to challenge next season because this is the standard you aspire to
----------------------------------------------------------------------
eventually yes.. but as mentioned before, noone apart from Barry has said we expect to win the league next season

Liverpool are an efficient, hardworking team. They may not be as pleasing on the eye as your United's and City's, but they've ground their way to the title so fair play.

Pitty to see the one time serious football board that was the United board, turn into a grieving wumfest. 😂

Personally, I think you’re getting ahead of yourself. Liverpool have only lost three times in two seasons.

Sure, United have done pretty good the last four matches, but assuming everyone stays healthy between the two clubs...you can’t but admit that Liverpool are better positioned between the two.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the thread was nailed on the first reply to be honest.

We are enjoying good football, plenty of goals and some optimism for the first time since I cannot remember... but we have to remember where we are, and also to expect more bumps in the road.

Think we are no where near as far off liverpool right now as some are making out (in terms of level of performance).

Consistency is the key for next season (and luck with injuries which we simply haven’t had over the past few years).

One, maybe two top signings a la Sancho, and if I were pool and city I’d be looking over my shoulder for next season for sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Start off next season well and maybe. I personally think you’ll be out of the title race by November.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bizarre comment.

Even with the form Liverpool have shown this season, you were 11 points above Chelsea after a 3rd of the season.

Out of the title race? No.

I think by November we'll be able to gauge just how far Ole's United have come, but that's a little different.

I don't think any United fan is expecting a title challenge anyway.

The benefit of being a big club I suppose, where as little old Liverpool have had to get their themselves.

Credit to you guys for that at least.

Let’s see if we can keep this form over many months before we start trying to compare ourselves to Liverpool. They’re still a far stronger team than us which is nothing to be ashamed of right now.

Let’s just enjoy our football and hope it continues.

Speaking of consistency, just did some quick maths and if you take the form of the last 5 games then you are 3 points better off. To make up the 34 points at that rate would take 10.3 cycles or 52 games. So if you carried on like this for a whole season you still wouldn't have caught up. MASSIVE GAP
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How about the last 10 games (PL only), a quarter of the season.

Utd - 24
Liverpool - 22

When you look at the teams played the fact we've had an extra 5 games in between, whilst missing a couple of our best players for periods you'd have to say there is potential for us to keep the pace.

This season shows a big gap, but it's also Ole's first season with 3 new key signings bedding in, the likes of Martial, Greenwood, Rashford all showing signs of consistency and hopefully improvements to our squad depth, I expect us to close the gap next season.

I don't expect a serious title challenge until 21/22 though, when both Liverpool and City will need large squad changes and possibly have new managers.

Last sentence is the main thing. As a fan I'm finally excited by the anticipation of a Utd game.

Been too long.

United v Pool - we're there already?

Calm down ffs. Let's see if you can get into the top four this season and improve on that next season before you compare yourselves with the English, European and World Champions.

You're 9 points off Burnley in tenth for crying out loud. in fact you're closer to Villa in 19th than you are to the champions.

Calm down with the delusion. You've won a few games with an easy run, scored a few goals, gained some confidence and that's great but keep the feet on the ground ffs.

And another Liverpool fan has their narrative.

No, TOOR, one person wrote an article.

If you bother read the contribution from other United fans you might see that the vast majority are fully aware how far behind we are and we don't need your arrogant contribution to help guide us.

Don't personally put games like City x2, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton is the easy category.

On a run that is now 17 games unbeaten.

I don't really get why people criticise Fimino's goal output. He's a 10-15 goal a season striker which might not be what you want from a number 9 but he doesn't need to score 20+ given both Mane and Salah do.

Add in his high assists, his pressing from the front, and how his movement and creativity lead to spaces for the other 2, then he's perfect for us.

7 assists and 8 goals this season isn't great, but the Liverpool team is a sum of it's parts.

to be fair, it is perfectly possible to lavish firmino with praise for his link-up play and movement etc, and still say that he should be scoring a little more.

if you look at this list he has the wrost goals to shots ratio of anyone on the list - a goal for every 8 shots, next worst is maupay with 1 in 7, greenwood is 1 in 3 - and it is fair to assume that, playing for the team he plays for, his chances are no more difficult than the average:

Yeah he's definitely under performed with his shooting boots this season but he has still won us something like 10 points.

I suppose his misses haven't really mattered as we've still been picking up the points which could be different next season.
