These days most abuse is from behind a screen, that’s why I say if it’s something you’re not prepared to say to somebody’s face probably best not to say it!

There's a big difference between banter amongst mates and directing a slur or offensive term to a stranger. Even then, I think it's better between mates to make sure that whatever you're saying is taken in the same way you intend it. Just because someone bears an insult with a grin, it doesn't mean they don't resent it.

The U.S. census, for example, has some pretty controversial categories based on the construct, although I believe people are allowed to self-define which group they belong to.
One particular qualm I have is the widespread tendency to categorise as black many people who are mixed race, albeit many do actually self-define that way and I more or less get why. The thing is it's rooted in the completely despicable 'one-drop rule' designed by colonists in the Americas to keep anyone not viewed as 'pure white' segregated and oppressed.
As for people self-defining their gender, it's no skin off my back, I find it hard to understand why it bothers some people so much.

Nowhere near as much.
These days most abuse is from behind a screen, that’s why I say if it’s something you’re not prepared to say to somebody’s face probably best not to say it!
Imagine shouting DVD DVD in somebody’s face, it would be excruciating!

There's a big difference between banter amongst mates and directing a slur or offensive term to a stranger. Even then, I think it's better between mates to make sure that whatever you're saying is taken in the same way you intend it. Just because someone bears an insult with a grin, it doesn't mean they don't resent it.

i am very interested in biological anthropology , and have been since i was a kid
i seriously considered taking a degree in it when i left school
population genetics is a part of this that has emerged since the 90s..
modern day populations are all the product of earlier populations mixing, isolating, mixing again, etc
modern day "races" as ppl imagine them, have not always been so
the modern day population of europe, is crudley put a mix of 3 ancestral populations:
WHG (western hunter gatherers)..the people who lived in europe at the end of the last ice age and the mesolithic , such as "Cheddar man"...these people seem to have had v dark skin and blue eyes, features somewhat eastern shifted compared to modern day europeans
Neolithic farmers: came to europe from the Anatolian plateau around 7K years ago, gradually supplanted and mixed with the WHG as they spread north and west throughout the continent.. thad had light skin and dark hair/eyes..modern day Sardinians are v close to them genetically
Ancient North Eurasians genes ...entered europe mainly with the bronze age migrations from the pontic-caspian steppe..the yamnaya ...so called "Aryans"..
these people introduced most modern day european lanuages to continent (basque being an exception)
may have introduced many of the allelles associated with blonde hair to the continent
as a rough rule of thumb.
the further north in europe the higher the ANE
southern euros , esp south east euros have higher % of neolithic farmer
