Chilwell....

Honestly, not sure. Part of me thinks he might be at the height of his overvaluation, but another part thinks that he should be better next season than he was this. (The season before I thought he was excellent but he hasn't looked so hot this year) Also worth noting that if we're serious about bringing Luke Thomas through then he probably needs a year or two with a senior player above him. He's looked promising but if thrown in the deep end he'd cost us goals right now.

I think the issue that I have is that you can accept issues in defence from an attacking full back if they produce in offence, but his crossing hasn’t improved at all - evidenced by how excited we got from a decent balls in from Thomas

Let him go. We need to make up for the lost revenue and if we can get £50-£60m it's a good deal and can be reinvested elsewhere.

For me, he's a prime example of someone having an inflated transfer fee because he benefits from having an English birth certificate, which is worth a premium. He's not as good as the pundits think he is and his positional mistakes and lack of an end product will be shown up more at Chelsea.

Thomas is a year or two away but we should be aiming for him to be our first choice in the near future. I'd look at a short term option who can do a similar job to Chilwell for a couple of years before we can bring Thomas in.

I might get slaughtered for this but...Patrick Van Aanholt, anyone? Late 20's, attack minded, gets the odd goal and assist. Not top tier but we're shopping in a different market now. I think he could do a job for a couple of seasons.

I think we'd have a problem signing a stop-gap who knows he's a stop-gap. If we were to do that we'd have to aim for someone older.

Although having said that we're going to have to replace Fuchs as well.

He seems to want to go so cash in, as long as it’s our valuation.

I honestly don’t believe we’ll be any weaker assuming we get a half decent replacement just like Maguire didn’t weaken us.

I think that was my thought process Dunge, someone to replace Fuchs rather than Chilwell. I’m not sure Maddison and Chilwell not being together is a bad thing either.

He has experience in the Europa and may struggle to turn down an order of Europe again

This is another thing: I feel a bit in the dark as to whether he wants to leave or not. For anyone who replies "it's obvious" - no, it's not.

Also worth noting in all this that Justin can play on the left.

I just don’t think it would have had legs for this long if he didn’t want to go and if it was about looking for a pay rise I think we would have heard something by now.

I think Thomas, Justin as an ‘if-needed’ cover and a new signing would be ideal.

To be completely candid, the only time I ever actively want first 11 players to go is if I think their inclusion costs us more points than it gains and I see this in Chilwell. I think his only outstanding attribute is that he is excellent at running with the ball at pace but, even as ‘assists to assists’, this rarely leads to much in my opinion.

As mentioned, the fact that Thomas’ crosses provided such a reinvigorating breath of fresh air says a lot for me as well.

On a slight aside, I can’t believe that we aren’t going all out to get Fraser as well considering he’s a free agent.

Ryan Fraser's attitude this season has been terrible. Effectively flipping the bird to his former club, teammates and fans. Don't want him anywhere near us.

I mean, never mind Hawkeye, it's him that Bournemouth should be suing.

It's been established all season that his attitude hasn't been right in training because he wanted a move, then he wouldn't sign a short contract extension post-lockdown despite them obviously being in relegation trouble.

F him.

I haven’t really followed it to be honest. Assumed he’d done the same as Lallana in terms of ceasing to the play.

Bizarre for him to have a bad attitude in training this season when he knew he could simply walk away at the end of the footballing year. Can’t think of any reason why he would have an issue in training with the ball in his court. Very odd.

OK here's a slightly tongue in cheek thought - if Chillers went and we had to do with Luke Thomas, would we not have a more able full/wing left back next season - taking all aspects of play into account?

posted on 29/7/20

I think the huge difference would be experience. However, if we were to sell Chilwell, I’d prefer the cash spent in other areas

Thomas has been very well protected in the three matches he's played. He has potential but he shouldn't play too much next season or serious errors will happen.

Chillers:
- defending poor
- going forward excellent
- crossing abysmal
- finishing occasionally excellent

Luke:
- defending - learning
- going forward - ok
- crossing - promising
- finishing - TBA

I really hope we dont go in for him.

Sell sell sell.

Thomas has shown more in 3 games offensively that Chilwell in his career. Ok, slight exaggeration but he’s so overrated and underperforms too often for me not to think cashing in is not the right choice right now.
