Eid? What's that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the British education system
----------------------------------------------------------------------
what the hell has the british education got to do with anything?

what a moronic comment
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're right. When I was a kid 30 years ago, they taught us about major holidays of other religions at school. So you can't blame the education system here. The news has also mentioned major holidays of other faiths, so you can't blame the media. On top of that, a simple Google search would help, so you can't blame that either.

I personally don’t think you could blame any Muslim families for celebrating it as if they didn’t hear the news.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would be their own parents/ grandparents they put at risk though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People need to start taking responsibility for themselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People do, but so does the government. Knowing that Eid is happening the next day and then releasing this on twitter is stupidity from this government.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was ONLY communicated via Twitter?

The government announcing measures affecting potentially millions of people late at night on Twitter is a new low for the government’s communications during this crisis.

When the government ended the daily press conferences, they said they would hold them for “significant announcements”, including local lockdowns. It’s hard to imagine what could be more significant than this.

Because, I assume, you can use the Internet. I assume the younger generation will be finding out as you did. The older generations will probably not find out until they watch it on the news in the morning if they do tune into watch.

Large swathes of the Muslim community ignored lockdown restrictions, first time round. I’m expecting more of the same

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw it with my own eyes
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Saw plenty of non-Muslims ignoring lockdown measures. But yeah, let's blame the Muslims.

dont think he is blaming the muslims, just stating what he says he saw.

if they werent overly strict at times ( and to be fair ive seen them outside mosques waiting to go in and they were in no way practicing social distancing) the chances are they wont be overly cautious when celebrating eid......the same way way as no doubt non muslims would be when celebrating their holidays

And why wouldn't you advise vulnerable people that the government has put in restrictions, etc, due to the outbreak?

But the conversation is about the impact on the muslim community. Surely him saying he saw lots of that community failing to take precautions is relevant?

No. You just pretend Muslims dont watch the news or use the internet and blame the big bad government for them claiming ignorance.

The government has been abysmal over and over again BUT timing a lock down just prior to a major chance of mass spreading is a very sensible idea (more notice would have been better, although that's nothing compared to their genuine feck ups which have caused thousands of deaths)
