Some one on Twitter had posted along the lines of, "do we pay Chris Martin what he wants" (I can't remember the actual figures), what amounts to about £1.5m or do we buy a younger striker for £1.5m?
I'd go for the second option, all good things come to an end at some point...

Fulham just scraped it to the promised land, while Brentford bottled it with a Roosesque mistake.

I wonder how many Rams players would get into those two sides? I don't think many would, much more "work in progress".

What is the name of this young striker who will cost £1.5 million and score 76 goals for us? I'm dying to know.

Marriott will come good next (this?) season.

Martin arrived for nothing and has left for the same amount. I don’t know what he has cost the club in wages, a few million for sure. Overall he has been decent value though for the money spent. Most of the players we have bought for a few million pounds have ended up leaving for nothing and haven’t done much in the meantime to help the club. It would be good to reverse our ‘Buy dear, sell cheap” policy of recent years.

If you use the film Moneyball as an example then we need to replace Chris Martin's 12 goals and 7 assists.

For those who don't know, Moneyball is a film starring Brad Pitt as the Oakland Athletics Baseball Team's managing director who had to replace his three top players who had gone to bigger clubs but had a very small budget with which to do it.
He went against his experts and brought players in purely on stats. It's worth a watch and is on Netflix now.

Anyway as a team we need to replace 12 goals and 7 assists but bear in mind that those 12 goals and 7 assists were not enough to get us into the playoffs. So need more.

Can Marriott, Waghorn and Lawrence take up the slack. Knight and Sibley know where the goal is and over a full season between the 5 we may well be able to cover the 19 goals Martin was involved in.
Furthermore we have Hector-Ingram on the verge of breaking into the team and Whittaker has just got that first goal monkey off his back.
So do we need anyone else?

Given that it all starts again in just over a month, is there a transfer window? Is is already open? Any 'keepers looking for a job?

A team needs a focal point up front. Waghorn hasn’t shown he is good enough to be a first choice centre forward for a club that should be challenging for promotion. Nor has Marriott and with his history at Derby since he came it would be optimistic to think he can lead the line all season. There is promise in Hector-Ingram but you would think the aim this season would be for him to get bench time rather than starting many games. I think we definitely need someone who can play as a sole striker or for Marriott to play alongside.

Mitchell-Lawson signed for Brizzle Rovers on a season-long loan. That really surprises me. Either Cocu doesn’t rate him at all or he has some wide players lined up to come in who are significantly better than JHL.
