Sigh.

Shouldn't have read the reply as I'm compelled to respond. I don't think I'll bother reading any further because as I say, you won't back down - you never do. (I do, despite your comment)

Classic Winston. Says he does things but very rarely actually does. Admits when he is wrong, except I've never seen it. Backs down despite not backing down. Denies saying things when those things are written explicitly in his comments.

A player going down easily might make a referee give a foul when one didn't occur - yes. This is literally no worse than a defender committing a foul and protesting his innocence and the ref not giving it. Either way the wrong course of action has been taken. Ideally neither of these things would happen, as I have said otherwise.

The pertinant point is that a foul can occur without it knocking a player down. If the player chooses to draw the refs attention to this by going down then he is entitled to do so and the ref is then entitled to book him for diving. Why should a player spend matches being tripped, pulled and kicked and stay on his feet without getting decisions from the ref? All of those things are fouls and the laws make no mention of the extent of the contact whatsoever.

Its an odd world where someone kicking someone is more acceptable than the pmayer being kicked falling over.

I think the issue is players going down and screaming foul, when there’s be with no contact or absolute minimal contact - that is the issue here

Football is anon-contact sport, but it’s impossible to play the game without there being an element of contact - the referee is there for just that, to make decisions on what he sees

If he misses a foul, then everyone should accept that as being part and parcel off he game - there will always be mistakes that make the game what it is, but they’re usually honest refereeing mistakes which should just be accepted

The unnecessary berating, criticising and hassling referees is unacceptable - all in order to pressurise and overrule a decision or the authority of the referee - that is plain wrong, and part the reason we are where we are now with that awful VAR

Football should take a leaf out of Rugby, and anyone found criticising or shouting at a referee, should be automatically booked and have a freekick awarded against the team - that would seriously cut out a lot of the crap we see week to week

I woild agree with a lot of this, however part of the issue is the idea that if a ref misses a foul it is just part of the game. That isn't fair on the player who gets kicked several times a game because the ref missed it the first or second time.

Whilst refs are never going to be perfect, we should do our best to support them which is why things like VAR and goal line tech are good steps.

I totally agree on refs being hounded. Get rid of it.

Absolutely right.

The answer to referees sometimes missing a foul is not to accept players throwing themselves on the floor at the slightest touch.

It's ruining the game.

over the past 30 years the foreign influx has brought so much good into our game...but it’s also brought a huge element of downright and blatant cheating
-----
There is no reason to believe that it is foreigners that have brought this cheating. Strange comment. The cheating is a modern football phenomena witnessed across the world without exception. It's the stakes that have gotten higher and teams are more desperate. I don't see the reasoning behind blaming it on foreign players IMO.

Of course a large element of the foreign legion that has descended upon these shores have brought with them the world of diving, play acting and cheating

You saw it it in Italy in the 80’s when that was the superpower, and as for South American cheats, well, look no further than the likes of Suarez

Definitely the foreign influx is responsible for the despicable cheating we now witness in our football

This here comment is the dictionary definition of the term verbal diarrhoea.

If you look up the phrase 'verbal diarrhoea' in the dictionary, you will find this comment, word for word.

Not just diving, bending rules like mane kicking the ball at the spurs players hand to win a pen in the CL final.

It's a funny one - the accusation against foreigners.

I think there's an element of truth in it, but largely because foreign leagues were for so long ahead of ours in terms of developing techniques - good and bad - whilst the Brits just carried on kicking lumps out of each other and not showing any weakness.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter, as everyone is at it these days.

Amazes me that referees get the grief they do, given that pretty much every single challenge these days involves cheating from at least one of the players involved.
