This has been on the cards for a while and is a good idea. You forgot to mention Champions League clubs as well. You do understand the reasoning behind it right?

Would be really interesting to see you draw up a fixture schedule for next season where Spurs are competing in the league, the League Cup, the FA cup and the Europa League.

Er no I don`t. Why would Spurs withdraw from possibly the one competition they have a chance of winning if they put their mind to it?

Oh yes... go for everything!!!! ........
with WHAT??
A broken down aged pair of back CBs and two guys on the wings who are total idiots... the one on the right, and.... the one on the left....for different reasons.
And a midfield that lacks its most important signing...ostensibly not to be sold this year, according to Daniel.... the devil... Leeeeevy!
And fragile... injured every season Harry, the Hero, Kane.... with No, but nooooooooooo....back-up.

Yup....we're going to win all the cups in Christendom..........
According to our aged sage here abouts.... SANDY.
WHERE did you get that name BTW?
Perhaps you ought to change it.....

Modern clubs have massive squads, so no real excuses. Back in the day when pitch conditions were awful, squads of 17/18 competed in 50-60 games without a problem. Modern footballers with everything going for them, seem to be able to barely play 30 games a season. I don`t care the game may be faster, it is less physical, very little tackling, pitches are like billiard tables. They have it as easy as they come, and yet somehow they cannot play more than one game a week.

I think the past month though has shown that games in quick succession do not really impact on players as much as some would have us think. Spurs played nine games in just about a month with practically the same team. So they can do it if they need to.

Tbh I don't think it's teams competing in Europe who will be excused from the league cup. More likely to be teams from this season. City, United, Wolves and maybe Chelsea. If those teams are allowed to start the season later, they'd have to be excused from the league cup. Whereas, anybody not playing in Europe in August will be able to start the season on Sept 12th and fulfill all their dates

Sounds awfully self-important for 6-7 English clubs to think that their own petty household ambitions will stand in the way of 92 other clubs continuing with their own show.

Especially when you know that the League Cup will instantly turn into a life or death priority for these 6-7 clubs as soon as reality sets in and everyone starts scrambling for something to keep the fans happy.

Because the season is due to start later as normal and finish later as normal too. Don't forget the Euros are next year so there are going to be fixture issues. It's commom sense. If we qualify for the Ropey league we will have enough games to worry about.

No one takes the league cup that seriously anyway.

Wth a late starting season and the Euros meaning no wriggle room the games will be coming thick and fast. I'm sure the League Cup can be fitted in somewhere but the semis must be one leg.

Lets hope it leaves no room in the calendar for the dreadful 2 week International breaks.

posted on 3/8/20

I think it's time for the league cup to be scrapped. Do any other major leagues have two cup competitions? The lower league teams are just as disinterested in it as the bigger teams. Can't imagine it's much of a money spinner for anyone.

Never been that from me. I am old school. I believe that every competition is of equal importance. You cannot just pick and choose. Every team should be trying to compete and win in as many competitions as possible.

Nah, if nobody takes the League Cup seriously, then more reason that Spurs do to put a trophy in the cabinet. You do realsie that Spurs are more and more becoming a laughing stock because of their lack of silverware. It`s getting embarrassing now.

You’re a bit slow!
That was the case with Poch in charge and he made sure we did finish top 4 in consecutive seasons.
We now have a manager who is like he says pragmatic.
He will assess Spurs best chances to win in which competition, and we’ll be going be going for that.
However, the bald suit at the top might actually want us to go for every competition, the greedy fekker!

Its always been about the top 4 and most would take 4th and no cup over 5th and the league cup.

However, the need to win a trophy has become of increased importance as we have won so few in the EPL era and its now becoming a real problem and piles on the pressure more each season.

I think most would hope that if you are of sufficient quality to achieve top 4 then you are also good enough to win a trophy....wigan and pompey have won cups and been relegated, so top 4 is the measure of quality and the cups should follow if you are of that standard....however, like i say, despite being of good quality we have failed to win cups and now its just a monkey on our back that needs shifting....hence Jose.

Most teams competing in Europe seem to play their youth teams anyway. So what's the point?

No I am not saying that at all, I just think all competitions should be targeted, but the League Cup looks the easiest along with the FA Cup, due to the fact most teams play weakened sides right up until the semis. The League is going to be difficult and to win the Europa Spurs would have to negotiate 19 games are thereabouts, so makes sense to target trophies where you only need to win half a dozen games max.
