Most teams competing in Europe seem to play their youth teams anyway. So what's the point?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Er no they don`t. Total nonsense.

Top4 minimum from Jose this season or it is failure. No excuses. A cup would be a bonus.

I can understand your point and frustrations on the matter of us potentially withdrawing from the competition, it is a case of when it comes to trophies beggars (us) can't really be choosers right?

However I would also point out that we really do not have the squad for an incredibly long season due to having to now qualify for the group stages of Europa.

It really is time we won a trophy but it is imperative that we are wise about this, withdrawing from the league cup may seem against the idea of winning trophies, but if I had to choose out of winning the Europa and potentially getting into the champions league or winning the league cup, the benefits of Europa are far greater imho. Then again if we don't withdraw it might mean more games for the kids so silver linings to every cloud.

In your game against Colchester last year you played Parrot, Skipp, Wanyama, Walker-Peters, Davies, Tangana and Gazzaniga.

That's more than half a team of reserves.

I seem to remember it all being about top 4 and spurs not being bothered about the cups? How things change.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its always been about the top 4 and most would take 4th and no cup over 5th and the league cup.

However, the need to win a trophy has become of increased importance as we have won so few in the EPL era and its now becoming a real problem and piles on the pressure more each season.

I think most would hope that if you are of sufficient quality to achieve top 4 then you are also good enough to win a trophy....wigan and pompey have won cups and been relegated, so top 4 is the measure of quality and the cups should follow if you are of that standard....however, like i say, despite being of good quality we have failed to win cups and now its just a monkey on our back that needs shifting....hence Jose.

What a soulless approach to football. Especially from a supporter.

I don't suppose the individual motivations that guide your players also feature in this narrative.

Sandy, you refer to the FA Cup as being a 'reserve competition' these days. What then does that make the League Cup? A youth competition?

How important then would winning it really be to Spurs, even with such a small minded manager as Jose at the helm?

I mean Liverpool played a youth team, if teams don't want to take it seriously then fine but they should all be putting out teams. Those who don't deserve the humiliating defeats their B teams will take.

Would be really interesting to see you draw up a fixture schedule for next season where Spurs are competing in the league, the League Cup, the FA cup and the Europa League.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Modern clubs have massive squads, so no real excuses. Back in the day when pitch conditions were awful, squads of 17/18 competed in 50-60 games without a problem. Modern footballers with everything going for them, seem to be able to barely play 30 games a season. I don`t care the game may be faster, it is less physical, very little tackling, pitches are like billiard tables. They have it as easy as they come, and yet somehow they cannot play more than one game a week.

I think the past month though has shown that games in quick succession do not really impact on players as much as some would have us think. Spurs played nine games in just about a month with practically the same team. So they can do it if they need to.

This isn't true Sandy

Yes, I am sure he will be aiming for top four, but did any of our previous managers make top four in their first full seasons, so you can hardly say it is a failure, especially if he lands a trophy.

Yes but it wasn`t the youth team, and we lost the game anyway, proving my point, you cannot just chuck together a team and hope to beat any team you have to play.

Oh sorry, I didn't know writing an article on JA606 had to be a contender for the Booker Prize.

Sandy, a footballer's physical conditioning is completely different nowadays to what it was in the times you referred to.

So as not to knock either, you might say it's like comparing an off-road vehicle to a sports car - built differently to perform differently in different conditions.

Put a modern day footballer in those old conditions, and he might break down during the first half. Put one from the old days in today's game and he might be made to look like a tractor.

Nah, the old time players would easily adapt to today`s game. You either have or or you don`t. And there was a lot more that had it 30/40 years back than the modern players. Some of them I don`t know how they earn a living playing football. Just running about like in the modern game, does not in any way equate to being a good footballer.

Even if so sandys certainly wouldn’t with its daft way of not bothering with titles. It would be like picking up a book that has the name based on whatever was in the opening sentence

I found;
“3 May. Bistritz. Left Munich at 8.35pm, on 1 May, arriving at Vienna early next morning; should have arrived at 6.46pm, but train was an hour late.”

To be quite a scary book about vampires.
