Probably the strategic reason of not being publicly bullied into demands from other clubs just because we have nig money.
This saga was already known to be the biggest story of the summer before the window even opened.
And as it involves United, it garners a lot of public interest towards the club. Any positive exposure diverted to United is good for United. And in this case, a possible transfer happening.

Walking away from a hugely anticipated transfer isn't positive exposure.
The idea is that we use the media to bluff about being prepared to walk away in order to get Dortmjnd to agree to a lower fee. Its nonsense. United will know what they want to pay. Dortmund will allways want more. Its whi blinks first.

Exposure in the sense that it involves Manchester United. Noone's going to look down at United for walking away (if they walk away.) I'm talking about the fact that it keeps United in the main sports headlines during the off season.

I’d be interested to see what people were saying in January re: Bruno’s signing. We’re talking about a lot of money and a transaction that has so many complicated strands. Even a slight fluctuation with CE can save or cost the clubs millions. Then there’s 3rd party stuff to sort too, agents fees sponsors, payment structures. If people think a deal of around £100m is easy or that United or Dortmund are going slow and not putting all their resources into doing a deal at this level rather than doing the complicated DD for such deals then they need to have another coffee.
I’m sure I remember seeing a huge lack of patience on Bruno also, people need to chill.
