Cheeky .
Have got to admit, that we seem to have been waiting a long time for Cheeky's promise and talent to make it through .
Possibly a loan this season might be best, otherwise it could be his last season with us ,but I hope that he comes through.
I don’t think this season is last chance saloon for his career at Chelsea but maybe his last chance to ever be a key starter?
A bit unfair to him I personally think harle, he's hardly had a chance to show what he can do given a run in the team.
Sure he's been restricted by injury over the last 18 months but he's 25 in January and can you put your hand on your heart and say he's had a solid grounding in his professional career?
He was 21 years and 8 months old when he had his 1st and only loan with exposure to 1st team football with Palace and was restricted to around 20/25 appearances because of injury there; and had little 1st team experience with us prior to that.
For a 25 year old, he must be the most inexperienced footballer of his age in the league.
I think we need to have a bit of context on his career before saying he's in last chance saloon.
Sorry, Biggish, not harle!!

I think the context is irrelevant though Brummie. It's the situation he finds himself in at Chelsea that counts. After the signings we have made, where does he play in this Chelsea team? Who does he keep out? He will be 26 soon and if he can't breakthrough this season then he won't want to stay and Chelsea won't mind him leaving.
25 in January I believe Biggish.
And yes your quite right he has to perform this season to prove he's worth a place.
The point I'm trying to get across is that as a club, we've not given him the best of platforms to make a case for himself as of yet, so I think it's still too early in his case to suggest he's not good enough!

I am not suggesting he is not good enough, but I believe he has almost run out of time at Chelsea to prove that he is.
As the man says, It's now or never, if he can't consolidate this season,he could find himself at the exit door ! but saying that, with the players we now have in the squad,it may well be the making of him,I hope so.
I’d love him to succeed. He has all the attributes of a great player if he can stay fit. I seem to remember reading that although he has played in lots of different positions, ultimately he wants to be a box to box midfield player. I would love to see a midfield with Kante and RLC in the middle, and Havertz just ahead of them. I’m not sure if he’s quite ready for that though.
I believe in him a lot. The one and only thing stopping him is injuries. If he stops getting injured and can actually be fit most seasons then he'll establish himself. As others have said he also needs plenty of consecutive games to go up the gears but if he gets that he's more than good enough to be a starter for us imo.
I dont think he will ever go a full season without mutiple injuries

Where does he fit it this Chelsea team Superb?
Is he gonna keep Mount out? I doubt it. I don't see him as a deeper midfield player. So for me he is competing agst Havertz or Mount for a starting place in the team.
That looks a tough gig on paper

Agrreed. . He feels like one of those players that is injury plagued. The FA Cup Final injury was just typified his injury plagued career.

Thing is we don't know where Havertz is going to play and for all we know he could even play as striker. Until we've actually seen Havertz in a Chelsea shirt we can't know where he'll play or even if he'll have a fixed position at all. Maybe he'll even play in different positions for different games. It's a complete unknown at this stage.
But regardless of that football is a squad game as we know and different players play in different games, some more than others of course. But if there's no hope for any of our midfielders getting any game time behind Havertz and Mount then there isn't any need for the likes of Kovacic or Gilmour in the squad either.

I’m not sure it will work out for RLC. Love to be proved wrong, but if he continues to sustain injuries he will never get the opportunity to develop his game here - and for a player of his age he he has very little match experience already.
If he does though, I think on form he starts. And his stamina issues could work in our favour with the competition we have. Lampard should be asking RLC to give his all for as long as he can instead of pacing himself throughout the game like he does to last the 90mins
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup injuries are all that's holding him back I think and it's a great shame and waste of such talent and ability that he hasn't been able to overcome his constant injuries yet. Maybe he just isn't designed to be a player that can play as much football as others in a season but there's still hope he can as he's still young and now coming into his prime. Even if he just becomes a really useful and well used squad player for us then I'd take that.
Didn't do himself any favours today!

It depresses me Brummie. He is someone I really thought would make it with us. But it just ain't happening for him.
To be fair though, there were quite a few that didn't do themselves any favours!
Have we still got the receipt for Havertz by the way!
Let's just say he was crap last night Superb!
