Well said.

All fair points other than the Havertz one. He absolutely may go on to be brilliant for you but what did you see yesterday to suggest that?

I saw an improvement on last week, he has now been with us for almost 2 weeks, is 21 years old and has to adapt but will settle and further improve.

There were 2 or 3 really nice touches on the ball, also he's movement a few times created space.
I also think him and Werner could develop into a very good partnership , played together enough.
In Brighton game they seemed on a couple of occasions to work together well and yesterday I saw a couple of things, though they did not come off I could see what they were doing.
It will take time but I am totally convinced Havertz will not be that long on getting up to speed wil leage
Thats my opinion

Apologies as well I forgot Pulisic.
That front line is going to be a right handful for any defence, dont care who it is

Seems like all United fans are writing off Havertz

Is that because they’ve had 3-4 years of POGBA being $hit and still not hitting the heights?

us we didn't spend 250 million in one window and by half a team

Is that based on a single comment from this thread?

OP - too early to tell imo.

I think Lampard does have a plan but it's hard to see what that is in any detail so early in the season.

That said, you're absolutely right to urge patience because if Lampard is going to build a title winning squad at Chelsea then it won't happen overnight.

Havertz been underwhelming so far for sure. I'd like to see him in a midfield 3 or as a 10 with two proper wingers though. Been a tough introduction with such limited time with the team and the injuries/change in systems/positions...

Not a united fan, but Havertz hasn't done anything of note. As far as not writing him off goes, you're only going off blind faith.

You have a novice manager though, whereas liverpool had one of the best around.

Nah you are where we would be if we made Gerrard manager.

Redinthehead, thanks for the input
But I stand by my remarks
But I can tell you this and I am 100% sure, it wont take us 30 years to win another Premiership title.
Just a matter of time, and it will come
I am so relaxed about everything and I think you will find vast majority of our fans know it will take time.
Patience is the key but as always we will get it right in the end

Id agree with this. The parallels are quite surreal actually. I really enjoyed watching chelsea last season. If actually go as far to say that you were the most enjoyable watch for the fact you played some terrific stuff but also you knew defensively you would ship goals, so games were always action packed.

3 or 4 years ago that was us. So easy on the eye going forward but a disaster at the back.

Yesterday the gulf showed, but this is a new team under a new manager. There is a lot of huge talent at chelsea to work with and if you can find yourselves your van dijk and allisson over the next couple of windows then yous will be without doubt up there fighting for the title.

Werner is the real deal. I thought he looked excellent yesterday even though fabinho dealt with him well. Havertz was very poor but id never judge a kid on a half of football against the best team in the country, im sure he will shine as he settles.

My 1 worry with chelsea is whether or not roman has it in him to let frank build gradually, something he has not accepted in his tenure yet. If chelsea finish lets say 3rd and trophyless will roman get an itchy trigger finger?

Youe are defo on the right track and given time and a couple of decent signings at the back could very easily be the team to beat in the next 18 months.

Arteta I remember an Arsenal fan on the old 606 site saying exactly same sort of thing about how we are just going on blind faith , that was said about a striker we had just purchased and was having a bit of a bad time in 1st season, now let me try and rember he's name, oh yes I got it he was called Drogba, do you remember him by any chance, when he was tearing pieces out of your defence season after season.
Sometimes blind faith can come true, come back in a season after Havertz beds in

Your situation is not the same as ours from 5 years ago.

You bought 6 players in 1 window and we did it in gradually in the last few years. That should be a lesson for your club.

Havertz could play the Firmino role with two quick wide forwards like Werner and Pulisic.

Yes but I also remember an Arsenal fan (me) also saying the same about Kepa. I'm back two seasons he's bedded in.

Oscar, you're making things up.

I haven't written him off, he was class before and I said he absolutely could go on to be brilliant for Chelsea

I just wondered what someone had seen in yesterdays performance to have 'seen enough to know he's going to be total quality'.

posted on 21/9/20

Arteta I bet you say the same about every player a prem rival signs. say it enough times and you will get it right sooner or later.
Kepe was easy I called that in a quarter of a season.
So you appear to know better than Lampard who is a rookie manager yes but a player of many years standing, who surprisingly knows a bit about midfield I will have plenty of patience with Havertz , I like to give players time.
God help any new signings for Arsenal , once you get your teeth into them in first half of their first game.

posted on 21/9/20

Arteta I will give you this, if you did say that about Kepa it really was easy.
When a keeper refuses to come off he's line and has a problem with crosses, you can tell that in about 1 games
and it is going to cost you big time.
Also saw the size of him and knew we had an issue
So you called that one right

I think this year is all about the new players getting used to the way FL wants them to play and for the younger players, getting experience and making a few mistakes. Next year they should be a real threat, especially if they continue to bring Billy Gilmour through, he looked a real player at the end of last year.

It's rare that all signing work out as well as you're suggesting though OP. Chances are that at least 1 will end up disappointing.

To echo a couple of posts, I truly don't believe we'd have seen the success over the last couple of years if it wasn't for Klopp.

I don't see the Liverpool parallels as strongly this season compared to last. As a few Liverpool posters have mentioned they didn't go on a spending surge like we have this summer, they addressed their issue more gradually.

Tactically Klopp & Lampard have acted differently aswell. At this point in Liverpool's development under Klopp they were playing a high risk gegen vs. anyone no matter the immediate cost for the long term purpose of drilling an aggressive pressing & clinical counter game into the squad that makes them so dangerous to this day - their style may have changed the last 24 months but they still have the capacity to play like that (Mane's header yesterday great example, terminator football). Lampard still hasn't settled on one dominant style of play yet, last week we were so fluid you couldn't tell who was playing where in attack, yesterday was your garden variety 433 sit & counter & this goes back to last season as well - it's good/wise short term strategy, but long term doesn't achieve much.

Honestly the parallel I see more now is 03/04 with Pool/City playing the roles of United/Arsenal, right down to Lampard who does remind me of Ranieri a little - he was highly experimental with systems & personnel that season in particular.
