What frustrates me is when people scream and shout about racist police, especially in this country where stop and search is very much more prevalent amongst black people, that if you think racist police is the only cause you're not dealing with the actual problem

The actual problem is disadvantaged areas, where stop and search is more commonly used, are predominantly non-white areas.

That's the problem, that inequality is what needs to be addressed. The police being or not being racist won't change that inequality, which is the real problem.

It's like somebody trying to fix covid 19 with cough syrup. Don't deal with the symptom, deal with the disease.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
do you think black people didn't try to move to Chelsea, kensington etc when they were first invited here?, we all had to go to the chitty areas because we weren't allowed anywhere else, by the people or the police, or government, hence the inequality starts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We all know why it started, but what we should focus our energy on is fixing it.

Totally agree with you.

I think it goes both ways though. I think one of the side effects of BLM culture is creating a divide in society that we've not seen before. I actually think a vast majority of white people aren't racist but there is a very loud majority consistently telling us we are when we attempt to have any sort of conversation or debate on this topic.

Like it or not, in a country which is 88% white, that sort of divisive culture isn't going to help.

My best man is mixed race and an usher at my wedding was Pakistani. Speaking to them, we agreed the absolute best thing I can do as a white person is to not go silent when I witness racist behaviour.

We had some really good chats about what we could do to help the situation.

Frankly me saying something to some racist moron will make more of a difference than anything they could.

That's how I'd define anti racist personally.

For me I try to see both sides, I much prefer the UK than the US in terms of integration, however I do think many more whites are racists, but BLM and other things in the cancel culture has stopped the dialogue, so if someone says that they don't like BLM or we shouldn't support it they are automatically deemed as racist.

Speaking of Covid are parts of the UK now back in certain levels of lockdown?

Dublin has been at a higher level then the rest of the country for the last week and has at least another 2 weeks to go.

Donegal was moved to a similar level last night after a surge in cases especially in those under 30.

https://www.rte.ie/news/2020/0925/1167366-covid-19/

Problem is it is right on the border with the North so there is supposed to be an announcement on a joint plan to tackle and restrict movement between the Republic and the North.

Should be interesting

I agree, I certainly wouldn't suggest that a majority of people in this country are actively or consciously racist. I think part of the problem though is that people mainly associate racism with overt, threatening, and explicit racism.

Racism can come about by lack of foresight, or consideration for people from different races. There was a recent article about a university updating their medicine curriculum because it gave students training on how to recognise certain conditions on white skin, but not black or Asian skin tones which meant that those ethnicities were more likely to be misdiagnosed.

Rather than being done through maliciousness or deliberate ill-will, it is most likely that thos was simply because in a majority white country, most patients would be covered by the original curriculum and it will have been designed with that in mind and neither a lack of consideration.

The problem is that people then get defensive and the daily mail etc jump in with headlines like "looking for blue skin now considered racist" and people get angry at the idea about it.

regarding it being 'pushed' in your faces now, this is not generally by Black people, we don't have any top positions in Media, TV, Sports,Social Media etc so these 'agendas' are not actually what BLM is about at all..It is 'white' people, usually men, at the top of all these organisations, classing everything as racist, trying to cause divisions on the ground imo...and it looks like its working.

Racism isn't just a white/black thing, it's also black on white/ asian asian on black etc.

I tell you one thing, white doctors far better care for black women than the Asian men ones in my experience, my friend died of meningitis because her doctor didn't give a crap, my sister's and friends sister doctor (both were Asian) didn't diagnose them properly for fibroid issues because they thought they had some STDs for just sleeping around, one lost half her ovaries because of the misdiagnosis

Also this anti racism thing, it's counter productive to ethnic minorities because instead of working through issues to be successful, it want you to blame everything on racism, so then you think what's the point of fighting, I'm not going to win because the system is against me.

That is how they keep people down.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
100%but it's very difficult when certain people (not aimed at you) deny that it even exists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Totally agree with you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
regarding it being 'pushed' in your faces now, this is not generally by Black people, we don't have any top positions in Media, TV, Sports,Social Media etc so these 'agendas' are not actually what BLM is about at all..It is 'white' people, usually men, at the top of all these organisations, classing everything as racist, trying to cause divisions on the ground imo...and it looks like its working.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh I fully agree with you. Nothing worse than white people deciding what everybody else should find offensive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't say that there is 'nothing worse than..' i am just stating the facts of who owns these organisations and who is pushing these agendas..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nothing worse than is very much an exaggeration in fairness but I do find it insufferable.

I say it again, BLM (the organisation) does nothing for the black community

Says white man

Also this anti racism thing, it's counter productive to ethnic minorities because instead of working through issues to be successful, it want you to blame everything on racism, so then you think what's the point of fighting, I'm not going to win because the system is against me.

That is how they keep people down.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
They’ve tried working through the issues, nothing has changed. Sometimes direct action is the only way.
