Coady has been excellent at the centre of defence. Why move him to midfield where he was average at best in the championship. Neves plays ahead of the defence and is one of the better players in the division in that position
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I wouldn't move him into midfield. I'd move the position in to midfield. I'd play one of Neves or Dendoncker (mayber even Saiss) there and allow two other midfielders more attacking freedom.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So just to clarify then you advocate dropping Coady altogether then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eventually to evolve the system, I think that will have to happen yes.

Shakes head in disbelief.
No words.

Coady is not over rated by anyone. Probably our most consistent player over the last year or so. Excellent distribution, very good reader of the game, and his defending has improved no end. To me Wolves most important players are Neves and Jimenez but the majority of my friends would put Coady ahead of both

Why? It's an opinion. You could just answer about how you think our system could evolve with him.

I think the system we play holds us back from controlling games. I am not sure he is good enough to play in midfield or in a back four. So to change the system where do you play Coady?

The fact that Coady has played every minute of every game for the last 3 seasons is not a coincidence.
The fact that he has the best long ball accuracy stats in the league is not a coincidence.
The fact that he has organised the defense and made them one of the most compact and effective defensive units in the league is not a coincidence.
The fact that as a result of the above he has been selected for the England national team is not a coincidence.

Take Coady out of our current defensive unit and it will crumble.

Will it though? He has played every minute, good or bad. We have little idea how our defence would be in another system.

But as Tam says, Coady only fits one system. With him we cannot evolve the system, simple as that.

posted on 28/9/20

This is what I meant by loyalty to Coady being the main reason people don't want to move away from 3 at the back though.

Good or bad, the end result has been the Championship title, 7th place and European football and 7th place again.
If I were Coady I would be quite proud of being the Skipper of a side that have achieved that.

He can be proud, but you still haven't answered the question about how we evolve our system with him.

Tam I'm loyal to the team as a whole, to the club and to the manager. I don't play Fantasy Football and am under no illusion that I am some sort of master tactician. I have faith in Nuno as a coach and I know that if he wants to change to a back 4 (of which I see no evidence) he will do what's necessary to make it happen. If that means dropping Coady, it will be done. Of that I'm certain.

I think we all know this discussion isn't really worthwhile this season as I see no way other than through an injury to Coady that we change from a back three.

I don't think we will change it this season. I did say it will have to happen eventually. I didnt put a timeline on it.

Nuno won’t change to a back 4 because it wouldn’t be in this teams best interest to do so, and because sacrificing one of our best players is clearly not sensible. What tam and cinci have been advocating for ages is a different style of manager to Nuno, a different group of players to what we have, and a different style of play

The majority of us remain in the real world and are enjoying what this Wolves team is achieving

Yep. Those with different opinions dont live in the real world.

It’s you that gets more sensitive than anyone else on this site from people having different opinions to you, as your last comment demonstrates very clearly

Interesting that Nuno wasnt wedded to a back 3 at his previous clubs. He had previously changed formations at different stages of the season.

I don't care if you have a different opinion. I take exception to being told I dont live in the real world for having a different on to you.

Or someone saying they 'have no words' as if to deride an opinion so they don't really have to fully argue it.

Yeah, better to just be rigid in your beliefs and not look to improve. Im sure that's how all the greats have done it over the years

Hey you guys!

It was all wing and no back in Semedo's wingback performance. We would have been better switching Samedo with Traore cause at least Traore will get back fast and help Coady's lack of pace.

Antonio continually roasted Coady in wide positions where some Sort of fullback should have been.

Not seeing anything from our expensive wonder kid either, except for watching him falling over.
