Closing the gap

Also people saying it is the manager that is the difference. So Klopp gets praised for his team creating a similar amount of chances as Solskjaer last season and conceding more chances. Difference is efficiency. The only reason we ended last season so strongly was we were winning games by 3 goals in 4 league games missed about 20 clear cut chances in those 4 games. It is rare to create like 8 big chances per game.

If you look at last seasons stats, our stats are significantly better than SAF last title winning side. In fact if we had SAF last title winning side and had same efficiency as last season we would have been near the bottom half of the table.

A strange thing to say. Where are these clubs that he would join?

Barca? Everyone knows Koeman is likely gone at the end of the season when Xavi takes over.

Juventus? Perhaps but maybe he feels he’s better than Serie A.

What other clubs are there? He’s probably waiting for one of United, City or maybe Chelsea. And most people would agree he’ll get a big job when the time is right. Just because your perception is that he’s not good enough doesn’t make it reality.

It’s a weird paradox at the club now. If we had capable people running the upstairs and were making the right decisions we wouldn’t have hired Mourinho in the first place.

Obviously it’s not just the manager. I can’t believe (spoiler alert, I can) we’ve gotten to the end of another summer like we did after LVGs first season and Jose’s second season where it’s been left until the very end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just goes back to the lack of consistency in decision making at the club. Each idea gets shelved after a couple of years.

Hopefully when Ole’s replacer they’ll actually bring someone in that can build upon what we’re trying to do right now. But I won’t hold my breath.

Just to put it how important efficiency is. After 24 league games Man Utd had 34 points, the worst we had in the PL. Liverpool had 70 points, the most they ever had. Liverpool had 20.32 points more than expected by far the most efficient team in the league.

Man Utd had 10.14 points less than expected by far the least efficient team in the league. 20th most efficient team vs the most efficient team in the league. If Klopp had his side with same efficiency as us he would struggle. Just like when Klopps Dortmund side were in a relegation battle before recovering. You can be the best manager in the world but if you need 30 shots per goal and concede a goal every 5 shots then you will look clueless.

Yeah. Was touch and go as it’s become covid hell in some parts but got everything done. Forgot how annoying watching football at stupid o’clock was. At least the Brighton game was a normal time.

Everyone laughed at how bad Solskjaer is after the Burnley game and how great Leicester were. I was consistent in saying that we were doing great but just needed to improve our efficiency and Leicester City to average out and look what happened an 18 point swing and even then we deserved to finish more ahead of Leicester City last season.

Because people in the football world recognise what a very good job he did at Spurs. Weirdly enough, they don’t see the world with the same blinkers you wear 👉

And what are the dynamics behind efficiency?

Very impressed with Everton so far. They’ve done brilliantly well getting a world class manager and getting him the likes of James, Doucure and Allan. Think they might be big shouts for top 4.

Ed is trying to reinvent the wheel through trail and error.

He may eventually get it right in 20 years time, but could have saved the trouble by getting a football person in.
