I think we are fighting the wrong devil in this case...

It is parents responsibility to feed their children. Britain is not a third world country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

How do they do that if they are worse off by working? Wages have not increased in line with inflation, costs have shot up.

It is families on low incomes or those without work where some 3m children live in poverty. Those are the kids who rely on meal vouchers at school because that is no doubt the only square meal they get during the day in term time.

To an extent I also believe some, not all, misuse their finances, have issues with addiction with kids suffering the consequences.

Fruit and veg doesn't cost much.. it doesn't take more than 30mins to cook a meal

There is also a strong positive correlation with food poverty and school attendance / performance at a formative stage of a child's development at school. Most of the poor performers unsurprisingly come from low income work class backgrounds. These children will be the future issue rather than the contributors to national wealth.

Fix the issues of social and economic deprivation and it fixes the effects of food poverty in 21st Century Britain. UK being a top 6 economy in the world. You'll never fix social or economic deprivation altogether but food poverty should not exist in the UK.

For you yes, for those who live hand to mouth the cost is a lot especially if you have kids who are constantly hungry to feed.

The line that parents are spending their benefits on booze etc is such a cheap cop out. Of course some are so why not fix that problem and also feed kids who need it?

Gambling and alcohol addiction is not cheap or a cop out as one of the reasons behind childhood food poverty. It's part of a complicated web of social deprivation that needs addressing.

The problem is going to get a whole lot worse and not better
More Tory “tough decisions” on the horizon methinks

It doesn’t matter if it’s parents responsibility to feed children because if they are not not being fed the innocent child is suffering. You don’t spite the parents by starving the children. Complete immoral and disgusting those hinting at that. Irregardless every child in modern Britain must be fed and it’s a basic human right as per the UN
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So every child in England should get 3 meals every day, regardless of income.

Because kids being fed isn't down to their not being enough money given to families. Its down to parents not being bothered to feed them, or spending money on luxuries.

I often don't agree with your posts, but this one I agree with it all. This is what some can't grasp, if the child is hungry because of feckless parents, they still have to be fed.
