You really do talk shiite, why was former world champion slow.Or why where multi race winner Coulthard or F1 winner Irvine also slow.

Be great to hear this nugget explain this

Irvine was one the slowest F1 drivers. It was strange he raced so long at a top team. Coulthard race pace was really bad that Hakkinen used to lap him regularly.

They were much slower than the fastest team mates they faced. I think Hamilton has had much faster teammates. Look at the onboards, they look like they are driving nearly perfect and Hamilton just finds time.

Loved Ronnie O'sullivan when he likened Hamilton's prowess as the best F1 driver ever.

O'sullivan said 'it would be like me playing against other players but every shot I played they made the pockets bigger for me'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That analogy just means he’s the best with an advantage.

If it’s all about the best car, why have so few won multiple world titles?

Does the best car change that much?

Considering Schumacher usually had really slow teammates and Hamilton had really fast ones, it is crazy how much better Hamilton stats are. You can see the onboards of Schumachers pole laps, he leaves plenty of time in many of his laps he destroys his teammates. He just had people going like 1 second slower than the car could do.

Look at Rosberg, facing Schumacher was easy for him. Rosberg facing Hamilton was nearly an impossible challenge for him in qualifying.
...........
Yet Rosberg still underlined his own single-lap prowess by running the Briton far closer than Hamilton's final two team-mates at McLaren, Button and Heikki Kovalainen, ever did. Only Fernando Alonso, in his single season alongside a then rookie Hamilton in 2007, got close and he still lost their qualifying duel 9-8.

Yes Rosberg got a lot of poles in his time but he still lost to Hamilton and when Hamilton beat Rosberg, he could beat him by big margins. Rosberg had to sneak poles.

What a country this. Any other country, they will worship Hamilton. Not good old England though, we always have to find ways to fault our own and put them down.

You know when Coulthard is conidered a faster driver than Irvine when Hakkinen used to lap Coulthard and people think Irvine is slower than that level.

Yeah Button was more luckier than Hamilton. Just like Rosberg was luckier than Hamilton in 2016. It happens.

A combination of two things. Hamilton is a bit of a bell and Brits don't like a show off
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly true, great achievements by Hamilton, but a lot of people think he’s a tw@t.

No doubt the car is not only the best, but the most dominant car in F1 history.Hamilton's record before joining Mercedes was 1 championship in 7 years.

So for me the car is the bigger factor for his next 6 titles.

Over 3 seasons the points,

Hamilton 657 / Button 672

Button is better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Button was a quality driver tbf. He did say himself recently that Lewis is one of the GOATs , best in the world and a different beast to the one he raced against, he's matured a lot and doesn't make mistakes now and his race management is excellent whereas in the past he just tried to out and out race all the time.

Let's have Hamilton and Russell in the Merc next year!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wish it was that easy, but F1 politics will probably play a part, plus Williams have a 3 season contract with Russell which they are sticking to.

Would Hamilton be still at Mercedes in 2 years time is more the question.

The reason Rosberg won the championship was Hamilton brand new engine with Hamilton saying he was coasting and still going much faster than his teammate failed near the end.
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/127346/malaysian-gp-cost-hamilton-the-title--wolff

I think if mechanically everything works it is hard for Lewis to lose to his teammate. McLaren sabotaged Hamilton in 2007 making a rookie stay out on tyres that were completely gone for many laps so that when he came into the pits he would go off.

Its a bit like in football, you are going to win the world cup. You are 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go. Your manager has a goalkeeper injured. Instead they let the goalkeeper play on until the game is finished. That is how stupid McLaren were that day. Even Hamilton references that day still while he is now at Mercedes and saying that if he wasn't a rookie he would have forced them to pit him.

The car is a big deal of course, I mean nobody who follows F1 would say Vettel is a better driver than Alonso but he's won 4 titles to 2. You need luck to be at the right team at the right time. But I don't know how anyone who follows F1 doesn't think Hamilton is easily the best driver in the world. The dominance of the Merc right now actually does his talent a disservice. When the new regs come in then we will hopefully see other teams on a more level playing field.
