Scotland's national clinical director has warned civil servants not to book a holiday abroad until 2022, a leaked video has revealed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Read that this morning
I agree with this lockdown but I have always had doubts that it actually works as i being evidenced right now.
What I expect however is more of blaming people for not following the rules despite every bit of evidence suggesting people are at their highest level of compliance since this thing started.
And then the the cry for harsher and longer lockdown, cos well if it didn't work last time it must surely work next time
All the while completely ignoring any contrary views from very capable and eminent scientists who don't set off on flights of fancy as a norm.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
certainly helped in NZ, Oz I remember being told in various places it was impossible for the UK to do this just a few short months ago too
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’ve been through this before.
NZ is an entirely different concept.
You espouse the severe lockdowns and measures until whenever?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
no I don't
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Neither do I. And it's not working in my opinion. Well, it certainly isn't worth it that's for sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yes half measures will never work
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you want harsher and stricter lockdowns?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No I don't want that however I believe that is what is needed.
then maybe a test and trace program that actually works or at least offers some value for the 22 billion that has been reported we spent on it
we allowed the new variant to mutate with completely ineffective measures and now we are fecked.
how many times should we do the same thing?
Ministers now stating kids in England will be back in schools before easter when we have no clue what the environment will be then?
Israel reporting a study that shows we could be having issues with our 12 week delay between doses now. I hope that is not the case but what will happen if it turns out we wasted millions of doses of the vaccine for a few weeks resistance?
It's a complete sh!tshow and has been for approaching a year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't know if you've read the latest but there is a significant belief that the mass test and trace system itself is a load of cobblers due to the fact that the tests were designed to "prove" the virus as opposed to it picking up miniscule particles which are of no harm.
They then force "contacts" to be declared positive and in turn self isolate unnecessarily.
The tests were designed to require a second test for absolute assurance one way or the other. That's seldom done if at all.
As for Israel; they have been setting out the efficacy on anything between 5-15 days which it is believed elsewhere isn't enough time so for me I'd rather wait for a better time based study and not press the panic button.
In any event even a 33% benefit is better than none particularly when the signs point to the vaccines reducing spread as well.

As long as it doesn't compromise getting the second jab in time or the effectiveness of it then even reduced protection is better than none and more importantly does seem to speed up the roll out especially where the Pfizer one is concerned due to the logistics of it.

Harsher and stricter is what we should have done in the first place along with stricter travel restrictions yes.
That horse has well and truly bolted though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And the repercussions of that have also long since passed unless we are going to say that the thousands of cases we are seeing now is a result of not locking down for an extra two weeks back in March?
Which would defy the laws of mathematics.
Also bearing in mind we are in the third and harshest lockdown since back then.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's my point though it's too late for that, not sure what you mean.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry
What I'm saying is that there are many who just want more, longer and stricter lockdown with harsher punishments and cite us not locking down earlier back last March as the reason behind it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No acting faster and would have meant we wouldn't of needed the measures for as long, other countries achieved this.
We saw Italy and we knew it was coming and did nothing at all.
That will be unforgiveable regardless of who is in charge and how anyone can support such a feckless bunch of incompetents is beyond me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not borne out in evidence.
Many European countries closed their borders long before this, yet are suffering horrendously with even harsher measures than we have even now.
Spain and France have horrible figures like ours in deaths and are catching up with this new Kent variant yet to hit. Germany figures on infection are higher than ours.
All modern countries with a very powerful approach on restrictions.

We need to have a careful eye on this and react if the Israeli findings bear out.
I've two sets of parents very concerned about not getting their second jab for maybe another 8 weeks.

I'm sure there is an element of wanting to be first and best but the logic behind it makes perfect sense at the same time
50% (maybe) efficacy for 4 million people is far better than 90% for 2m people.

They are far from blameless in all this, they didn't really have the powers to act alone. I remember Sturgeon saying she would close the border to England if needed. A move that quickly rebuffed by JRM claiming there is no such thing as a border between Scotland and England.
then again he thinks fish are now happy to be British
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry but the Scottish government did have the powers to do what they thought necessary.
They merely did practically the exact same as Westminster although for a period Nic tried to get in first ahead of the Cobra meeting at any given opportunity to the point where they had to exclude her on a trust basis.
lauders earlier link demonstrates it all quite clearly although you may have missed it.

Only if it doesn't fook in some way the efficacy of a drug not tried in that dosage
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of this is lab based to be honest so it's to be expected the real world experience will differ. As long as it's not reversibly game changing then all good so far.

I would agree we would have done anything for a 50%
vaccine 10 months ago, this is a huge gamble as we don't really have any timscale of how long the vaccine will be effective, antibodies in those who had it diminish reasonably quickly. Vaccine programs will probably need to go on yearly for who knows how long.
And the other worry is the uptake still large numbers of the population are not going to get it, that can cause more issues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep
All to play for yet so much to lose.

I always wonder at this periodic "count" to measure perceived success or failure when we are nowhere near the end of this battle.
It's fair to say nobody knew what they were dealing with and certainly not the scale of it.
Many "experts" predicted ludicrous scenarios on both sides of the spectrum; very few of which were even close to being correct.
We are still learning.
But somebody wants to produce a table

----------------------------------------------------------------------
As long as it doesn't compromise getting the second jab in time or the effectiveness of it then even reduced protection is better than none and more importantly does seem to speed up the roll out especially where the Pfizer one is concerned due to the logistics of it.

Yeah
We need to have a careful eye on this and react if the Israeli findings bear out.
I've two sets of parents very concerned about not getting their second jab for maybe another 8 weeks.

New variantFFS If yer in bother at the press conference justifying our third lockdown that hasn't stopped a fookin thing just say new variant, I did and I got away with it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There was far too much reluctance to impose restrictions on south England till it was far to late.

I will say I think it's bull when they try to sell the we wanted as many to get the first jag as possible, my rse they wanted to be a "World beater" in rolling it out so moved the posts for short term gain
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmmm
