Obviously a pleasing achievement but the actual benefit will be when the u23s are playing against the best in the country every week and will develop quicker for it.

Huge turnaround from the Cellino days

Great news

Still remember some fans backing cellino for making players bring there lunch in, and trying to mothball the youth sides

Yeah, I remember that too.

Imagine thinking that with the amount of super stars that have come through our academy as well.

Its actually quite an achievement in itself when you consider how much that criminal ripped apart the reserves.

Without a doubt it is a great season, there is a gulf in class between the lads and the majority of those playing at this level. Hats off to them and to the coaching staff, Bielsa, Mark Jackson and Carlos Corberan.
It is worth remembering that the U23 squad is very young, Max Dean for example, debuted at 16, other teams in the division are much older.

To me this does beg some questions, how will they fare against the elite U23 squads, the likes of City, Tottenham, Arsenal etc?
Is the U23 squad those more likely to succeed or those players already playing first team football but in lower leagues, especially Alfie McCalmont who is making a name for himself at Oldham.
How many of the U23's will go on to break through into Pro football?
Finally what will it take before those who are making the bench will be given a start under Bielsa. The likes of Gelhardt who showed he had more than enough at Wigan but is yet to make his league debut for us.
Me feelings are that the real elite academies are just that and the kids might find next year a lot harder.
That of the U23 squad there are four maybe five who could break through (Gelhardt, Greenwood, Huggins, Drameh and Cresswell), though maybe not necessarily at Leeds.
I feel that loans are a way to get rid of players and the likes of McCalmont, Stevens, Bogusz etc are sent out on loan because it is a way to showcase them.
Finally, I think Gelhardt is more than ready but that he is unlikely to start because Bielsa has his tried and trusted players. I would prefer to see players brought through from the U23's than mega money spent in the closed season. Huggins (or Davis) could replace Alioski but I am not holding my breath.

I know Greenwood and Gelhardt tend to get more notice than a lot of our other players, but there is something about Drameh... sometimes you can look and think, you know what, you have "it" and he is one of those players...
