Why didn't they do this the previous 14 years they were in power? This is why it looks so stupid when an incumbent offers bribes.

We would need to be independent first

While the Tories control the purse strings? I'm not saying it's impossible but they are already delving into devolved matters for much more minor things so i highly doubt they would let that happen.

Hmmmm

I’ll hammer the SNP at every turn but the starting point was a bit of a chuckle as regards free prescriptions and the like.

Maybe the fact Scots pay more tax would be a reason? Actually it is the reason. The Scottish government is able to raise additional taxes and does. That’s what pays for “free” prescriptions, travel and now school meals for all kids.

To me it sounds sensible. Might want to try looking after our people a bit more like this across the whole of the U.K. I’d doubt everyone would be sniggering then of course

To be fair free prescriptions for people living England would be cruel and inhumane. They already have to live long enough in England, keeping them alive for another few years with medicine would just prolong their suffering. And a four day working week would not work in England because then you have 3 days to think about the fact that you live in England instead of 2. That extra day would push them over the edge surely?

Should be a 2 day working week at max .

most of us only work about 1 day a week and spend the rest of the time happily away from family chatting on the internet.

I wasn't taking the mick mate apart from the Krankie ref

We need to get on to this free prescriptions and dental lark.

One step at a time though, lets start with a 4 day week.

<They already get free prescriptions

It was Scottish Labour that brought that in.

Along with abolition of Student Tuition fees.

And free Home Care for the elderly.

The SNP are right of centre 'Mini Me' Tories.

Presiding over austerity and focused on their fellow Party rivals.

I voted No in 2014 but will vote Yes next time to get rid of them.

And the Tories.

And rejoin the EU.

Not sure why all the focus, most of the fossil fuels are gone and given there’s not much of a market for granite and lichen we can drop the Barnett Formula and move on, surely ?

A 4 day working week??? Nae bother! Why not make it a 3 day working week, that sounds even better!!
Free this, free that, free everything, wow! They’re definitely on a roll up there in Jockland aren’t they?

The Scottish economy has flat-lined for the past seven years, oil is trading at a third of its 2011 price, for every £100 generated by the Scottish economy for the Treasury, under the Burnett rules Scotland gets £137 back.

Nae bother a’ ta!!! A sure-fired winner, pints o’heavy a’ roond.

Let’s go for even a 2 day week, even better!
The UK Treasury will pay the extra, won’t they?

Won’t they?

Well, if not them, the EU will welcome them with open arms, especially the Spanish, and they’ve all got plenty spare cash, post-covid, haven’t they?

2 day work week? Let's not go crazy here.

IMO, a 4 day work week doesn't necessarily mean there'd be less productivity. In fact, the population's mental health would improve and people would arguably be more productive as a result. The fact is that we created a world where everyone is running a rat race at break neck speed and have never taken a step back to analyse what it's doing to us.

Over the centuries we have changed a lot of things after realizing that they were harmful to us or there was a better way, but some things are etched in stone and will take sober minds to address. Won't be easy, but we should have the courage to change them as well.

Perhaps a 4 day work week should be a global initiative as no one will be able to do it alone.

Think how much money would be spent on that extra day off as people take long weekends every weekend. Helping out our local businesses and the tourism industry. Instead of sitting in an office on a Friday, barely doing any work and just getting a tesco meal deal, then going home to spend more time being overweight and miserable. The health benefits would be massive, if we are able to teach the English/tories how to actually enjoy life. Enjoyment doesn't have to be bad for the economy. Misery does not equal success.

Not to mention that it would create jobs, at a time when jobs are being lost to automation, and the death of the high street.

Plenty of places will need to remain open 7 days a week while offering 4 day working patterns.

posted on 16/4/21

How about 4 day weeks but job share? This can be done through the creation of a new day. Let's call it Funday. So a role is being covered 8 days a week but by people sharing the position 4 days a week each? That means 100% productivity 8 days a week whilst also having 3 days off to improve mental health and spend money in the leisure economy. It would also have the benefits of people aging less quickly because there would be an extra day in the week so years are longer. So if in 20 years I'd be 53 with 7 day weeks, I'd only be 41 if weeks are increased to 8 days. So everyone benefits.

Apart from the Tories who just want to work and die quicker. They can stick to working 5 days out of a stupid 7 day week.
