If you want to skip Jury Duty, just have an opinion on everything. Good or bad. The lawyers will rule you out if you're a chatty Cathy.
I've gotten summoned 3 times in the last 5 years. Got in and out of there in 3 hours each time.

“Yes I vote republican…, oh it’s a black offender, great””
Denied.
What sort of stuff did you say freedom?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
‘Does the defendants race bother you at all?’
‘No, I’m perfectly okkk with the fact he is black’
Denied!

The last one I went to, I just told them that the lawyer was really quiet and I couldn't hear him and fear that I might not hear crucial information.
Another time, the lawyer asked us "my client will not be speaking at all in the trial. Will any of you have any issues with that?"
I said, "he's on trial for (whatever it was, think it's DUI). shouldn't a man defend himself?" Got thrown out 15 minutes later.

606 and earphones were a god send tbh. I did it just after the courts reopened. They were still getting used to the covid rules. We were not allowed to have a kettle just in case we all touched it. There were 10 of us in a tiny deliberation room, no windows open, separated by sheets of plastic. During the deliberation we all had to put our phones in one small safe so they all touched.
Got pinged 2 days after it
Should have committed a minor offence when you were younger were you got admonished and you'd never have to worry about jury duty.
So I've heard anyway...
I did two trials as a juror at The Old Bailey when I worked in London in the early 90's. The first one was a murder in an east end pub that collapsed as every witness told a different story, then rather than send me home I got put on a rape trial where the defense brought up every episode in the girls life that showed she was flirty. In the jury room at least three of the older blokes said 'she was arskin' for it'. The guy was acquitted on a majority decision. All the clichés are true.
There was also a massive Triads trial on at the time, so there police with semi automatic weapons all over the place, first time I'd ever seen real guns.

Yeah, its a bit of a farce really. Anyone thinking a jury doesn't have pre conceived ideas is fooling themselves.
I got summonsed for jury duty week commencing 20/09 but I have a wedding to go to so I've deferred it until February next year.
It really depends what case you get. I served on 2 cases. One was a drug dealer the other was 2 bouncers battering some lads outside a bar. The drug dealer one was pretty boring, the one with the bouncers was pretty interesting.
I nearly ended up on this case:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9223479/Two-teenage-girls-tortured-murdered-vulnerable-woman-home-NEVER-named.html
I went into court and saw the girls and heard the outline of the case, but wasn't one of the sleceted jurors in the end. I was half glad and half gutted. It would have been interesting, but the case lasted a long time and it'd have been pretty shocking hearing how they tortured and killed a vulnerable person.

I don't mind going and, as I won't be losing out financially as I'll still get paid by work, I don't mind going. I just found it strange how loads of people I know suddenly got summoned. I suppose there's a backlog with cases with Covid.
I can't imagine it'll be a very juicy case as nothing too major usually happens around here but you never know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You could get a case from somewhere else rather than local. They sometimes move cases out of the area where it was committed for safety and fair trial reasons.
I was on Jury Duty early this year, to be honest, I really enjoyed it. Although, I was in an Odeon Luxe cinema rather than the court room.
The only downside is finding out that a lot of people on the Jury are dimwits.

That's a possibility too isn't it.
I suppose the issue we have here is that it's not very densely populated so, even though the court I'm attending is 40 miles away, I could know the person.

In which case you can't be part of the trial. They always ask you if you know anyone involved. I had a bit of a funny one in the middle of the drugs trial I was in the jury for. The lad who had been busted with a sports bag full of weed said that a drug dealer had passed him the bag a few minutes before he was busted with it. He gave the name of this supposed dealer and it was the same name of a lad that I know who is a dealer! Just a coincidence and the lad was lying anyway, but stopped me in my tracks for a minute.
I have never been selected to do Jury duty, I know many people who have, but never myself. As a self employed person (never had a job) I was always told that it wouldn't be a good thing... but I have always loved to have a go.
