A week or two ago I saw a prediction based on results and teams played extrapolated to the end of the season that had us finishing 8th again this season.

Lets just end the season now then, and go on extrapolated results

Damn it, DJ delivering the final blow to our hopes of scraping 4th

I think we should be re-evaluating expectations for this season if we don't finish 4th or come very close to it Arteta has to go. We have the added advantage of playing less games than the rest. United are not going to be transformed into this high intensity all action team in less than six months Tottenham can't rest any of their players as illustrated by their hilarious display against Mura to a lesser extent West Ham are in the same boat. The big concern at the moment is our attacking stats they are not good enough at the moment and the negativity in tactics are hampering us. I hope this changes starting tomorrow. Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if we start well again go a goal up and then just defend for seventy minutes it's the Arteta way for someone who just about everyone in the game says is a tactical genius he sure isn't showing it at the moment.

Bit unfair to change the target just because he is ahead of the curve, isn't it? (if he even is...).

Is it? I mean, we scored 3 against Spurs and Villa.I doubt there is a gameplan to sit back after scoring, it is probably more to do with the players and confidence still low.

We are obviously doing better than last season in terms of points but in reality that really isn't that difficult considering how bad we were this time last year. I don't think it's unreasonable to re-access our position and the expectations. Things have evolved rapidly this season teams we thought would be challenging top four ie Leicester are not in the equation we thought United would be out of reach again thats not the case. Tottenham are distinctly average, the only team that have really continued their decent form from last season is Wedt Ham.

We are very defensive just look back at previous games this season Palace at home we go a goal up then sit back and defend for seventy minutes, Leicester away again played some good football for twenty minutes then sat back and had it not been for Ramsdale we wouldn't have won that game. Even that Tottenham game we sat back again for large parts of the second half inviting pressure and if I remember rightly Ramsdale had to make a top save to stop it going 3-2. Finally the game the other night followed the same pattern started well had control of the game go a goal up then we went passive again it's more than a coincidence and the reason our attacking stats are so poor.

There’s a stat that has Arsenal 3rd in terms of most likely to score at 0-0. As soon as a goal is scored at either end, the likeliness of scoring again or responding puts us about 15th. So we could score first vs Everton but just got to make sure they’re awful enough not to respond.

How about not sitting back if we take the lead.
Keep going at the other team and score as many as possible without inviting pressure.
We are unable to do this

Quality post.

Aston Villa get ride of Dean Smith and "even Norwich" improve their manager with........Dean Smith.

Then you are back to "Arteta Out", basically because the only change since you were "really firing" a week ago, is Spurs are back above you.

And you wonder why everyone else calls Gooners fickle.

It's got nothing to do with Tottenham and where they sit in the table relative to us. Its about the style of play which is overly negative and has cost us results in games we should of won. If we had won these games 1-0 then Arteta could argue we've got the results so what's the problem but he hasn't got the results against United, Palace etc which were very winnable games and could be the difference between 4th place and 5th.

If we lose to Everton it will be a true marker if how bad we really are

Arsenal expected points after 14 league games last season was 18.84 but had 14 points. This season Arsenal expected points is 19.27 but have 23 points so Arsenal are performing similar to last season except they are more efficient at getting results.
