Dont get me wrong - if Souttar can stay fit we have undoubtedly won a watch with him. Huge 'if' though.

He was Hearts best player by a mile at the weekend and he is the type of CB we really need domestically.
When teams sit deep against us they leave the CBs on the ball. Souttar is great at bringing it out from the back and stepping into the midfield.

A pairing of Kind and Souttar long term would work well for me longer term. King spent a lot of his younger years as a midfield player and it shows with his natural comfort on the ball.

I think we need to treat Souttar as a squad player, he may be able to be a regular starter but we cannot rely on him to be that. Doesnt mean he cant . Im sure when we signed Goldson after his heart problems we wouldnt think he would end up playing an average of over 60 games a season !

there is no "fee" when players sign .... even if it involves a transfer fee the player gets a signing on fee . what tends to happen with free transfers is that they tend to ask for a bigger signing on fee.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, there is a fee then?

yes just like every deal going... he has no transfer fee, which is what people allude to when say he is free signing that increase in signing on fee can be anything and like I said tends to only get increased if there is competition for the signing.

although it is possible that there is also no fee at all either signing on or transfer... there have been plenty of cases of this being true, i doubt that will be the case with Souttar however.

----------------------------------------------------------------------thought the deal was a loan with a mandatory fee to buy him so he was gonna be a permanent celtic player regardless?

Best United moment was basking in the glory that is Dylan Levitt. Possibly the best player I've seen at Tannadice since Robertson. Just so effortlessly effective.

Best non-United moment - Dundee signing Mark McGhee. The most diddy tinpot thing imaginable. Sacking your manager after winning two straight games for a man who had a six game ban and has been abysmal at every football club he's managed since since 2009.

Hopes for the new season - not to embarrass ourselves in Europe. If we get a beatable team, we beat them. If we get some European giant, give them a game. None of this resorting to a 4-5-1 with our best striker on the wing nonsense.

Best moment - beating Rangers 1-0 at the start of the season. Not just because we beat Rangers, but because it was my first game back in the stadium after Covid. It feels like an eternity ago now but it was a very good day.

As for next season, yes I want a high league position but more than anything I want to be entertained while watching Dundee United. I want to see Courts grow as a manager and develop a coherent attacking system that gets bums off seats.
