why has Vaughan bowled 4 overs?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably to give him a break after bowling 60 odd overs a few days ago I'd guess?

He's an 18 year old part timer who bowled 69 overs. I know he's an offspiner but I imagine that would have taken a lot out of him. He might be fine and it's surprising that it took them so long to give him a go in the second innings. But that would just be my guess to protect him a bit as he opens as well.

Just seen Potts and Carse are in the ODI side which will be why they aren't playing. I'll let Surrey off! Somerset lose a wicket in the first over but they scored 8 runs, perhaps trying to win this today with weather about tomorrow.

Blimey, if Somerset manage to win this one I'd say they deserve the title

Looks like a potentially season defining day though. The title could be pretty much done by close of play tomorrow. Somerset need to find a way to win as Essex will be keen to stop Surrey in the final game.

Sadly it did not happen. They choked again.

Will take that after they bummed us twice in a week

That was a pretty quick capitulation. Shame the title is done now and with that loss and a points deduction for Essex, Hampshire now very much in contention for a runners up spot as well. I don't know what it is about Hampshire but I find them very boring.

Somerset's treble dreams are dashed and now they might go empty handed unless they can beat Glamorgan in the one day cup.

still been a really good season for somerset though.
seems like they need a little more in the batting?

Well done to Surrey who win the County Championship for the third year running.

Rossington's last game for Essex today, hopefully.

almost everything pre 2000 is somewhere online, so how about we make it 20th century film of the week?

With the weather patterns coming over from the USA, I will be surprised if any of these games get finished.

Not a lot of cricket going on.

I've just seen Aaron Beard has retired at the age of 26. Shame as he was a bolter when he first burst onto the scene but injury problems seem to have cost him his pace and now his livelihood.

I remember about five or six years ago where took 4 wickets in a county championship match and the Essex captain at the time said we would see many 5 fers from him. He never made one.

I think he had good pace and may have made more appearances for us had he not been up against two of the best seamers there are in county cricket. Thought he was a better option than Snater given he could bowl close to 90mph but I'm assuming the injury problems have meant he doesn't have the pace nor learned the skills to be a good medium pacer. Or he just wasn't good enough. Although he took 108 wickets at under 35 which is more wickets at a better average than I thought. Perhaps it is purely based on wanting to do something else. I remember Ansari retiring at like 25 not long after he played test cricket for England.
