I've got a lot of time for TAA, a player with great skills and attitude but imo, and obvs mine only he's not a top level RB, he can play there and look ok or even more than decent dependant on who he is up against, a top wide player can take advantage of his defensive frailties, where he should/could play I'm not sure but he's a baller no doubt but does lack defensively which in some games isn't an issue but in others.....maybe not so good?

The same Steven Gerrard who got in team of the tournament in all three Euros he played in, was England's best player at one World Cup, top goal scorer at another and only 21 years old at the other when he was rested for one of the group games due to not wanting to risk a booking and a suspension but scored in the other two. Is this the Gerrard we're talking about, one of the few players who actually performed for England but somehow got dragged down with all the others when they didn't perform?
It's funny how myths go and how people get sucked in.
I include TAA in this but players who actually have the balls to take it on and try things will lose the ball but when they have quality like they do, this will result in chances, rather than the same old boring England of being afraid to do something with the ball as the likes of you being up the media's hole will come down hard on anybody showing a bit of balls and not playing it safe.
And they wonder why England are potless for sixty years.

It is funny how myths go though. Obviously Gerrard was better for Liverpool than England, as is Trent as their clubs set it up for them to be the main men, due to their quality and sometimes in Gerrard's case the lack of quality around them.
However this has been a lack of modern thinking and innovation from the management with England. In Gerrard's case he was played in a two man midfield which he of course could work in but it was with Lampard who was a top player of course himself but it's not a two you would play together, certainly not at a time when European teams had started playing three men midfields. If somebody had the foresight Gerrard or Scholes would have sat, negated both their natural game(note Scholes wasn't this Pirlo like player people have retrospectively created him as but a top attacking midfielder but capable of sitting deep and creating from there). Gerrard was so devastating at club level in terms of goals, nobody wanted him to sit but that was the correct move as an England manager noting his obvious defensive capabilities and the capabilities of the other two, Scholes and Lampard. Unfortunately England were still stuck in the 4-4-2, whilst other nations evolved.
Even still, when Gerrard wasn't scoring last minute goals like Olympiakos and West Ham, then he wasn't performing, despite the recognition from his peers in the major tournaments, in the end of tournament voting.
England fans bias is unbelievable. I only see Northern Ireland and Ireland back home and it isn't a thing. It's constant with England and it still happens now, constant ridicule of players who play for rival clubs no matter what they do.
Saka got it all tournament in the last one and from where I was sitting he was one of England's best players. Actually trying to make things happen.
A culture has been created whereby one mistake is a national disgrace and players are ridiculed for trying to make things happen. Playing it safe has become the be all and end all and mediocre players have been pushed to the forefront both in terms of on the pitch and in the eyes of the fans.
TAA should be starting every game, I don't see any world where Grealish should not be at least in the squad and for me starting and of course there are others.
England might actually win something now that your most successful manager ever is gone.
Trent is the best right back in Europe, the fact he can’t perform for England is an England issue, not a Trent issue.

BBC comment page (as pointed out by pun):
“TAA played a great ball for the first goal but since then I've lost count of the number of woeful passes, crosses and free kicks! It's like watching me play football.”
‘Alexander-Arnold showing why Southgate never picked him. He’s like Steven Gerrard at international level, only thinks about playing 70 yard Hollywood passes that serve no purpose to the team and most of the time go straight to the opposition.’

Ah yes, the BBC who will publish any old nonsense on their threads.
