If I killed an innocent person by accident, you know ran them over or lashed out in a confrontation and someone fell and hit their head on a kerb, I’d be devastated.
If someone entered my house and put me in a ‘me or them’ situation, or I felt my wife/kids were in legit danger and my response somehow resulted in them dying, I could live with it. Not saying I’d want it to happen, but I could at least rationalise it to myself. My gaff Is pretty well protected - but I’m well tooled up for such an event, as you never know.
=======
You really have to be careful in this situation. Having say a baseball bat by the side of your bed, just in case you get broken into, and you used it to injure a burglar then you could find yourself charged etc
Always leave the bat in a different room but know exactly where it is incase you need it

Pre 9/11, on a coach trip. Wasn’t difficult at all. They were more interested in people with suitcases full of snout.

Ahh fair enough.

My view with confronting burglars has always been, if you can avoid it then avoid it. These days most will be after car keys, so I leave my keys downstairs on the hook. Let them have it I say, that’s what insurance is for. Much rather that than have them come upstairs where my kids are.
They will be tooled up no doubt, and more alert than you. In my head I feel that if you’re absolutely forced into a confrontation situation you’re better off having defence tools you can use from distance rather than getting close to some screwdriver wielding nutter, like pepper spray or a powerful air pistol.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would they be more alert? I reckon the adrenaline rush you'd get would make you just as alert.

7 iron in the umbrella stand mate, loaded Air Arms Hunter Carbine TX200 in the gun cabinet. Used to have pepper spray that I brought back from Prague but would never get away with using it and Missus Ace made me bin it when we had our first boy!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You would have to justify why you had a 7iron in the umbrella stand. It’s not normal to keep one there is it? Your defence might be I borrowed it off a mate and took it to the range. But make sure it’s a different set to your own!

You cannot pre-meditate a defence just in case!!
Read about this once where a judge ordered the jury to find a bloke guilty of GBH having battered him with a cricket bat he kept under his bed for such just cases!!

Imagine it getting to the final part of the prosecution's case.....'err one more thing.....this thread on 606 your honour...'

Jeez - all the things which have been discussed on this thread
You could negate that by having a cricket ball/baseball next to the bar though I believe
