Yes we do, same as you you sing a song with line we hate everton in it.
Not sure what is has to do with punishing Spurs time after time

Congratulation on the win, but in my opinion this tournament is nothing but greed and stretching the game to its limits.
If your team has to enter then its best to win but I've seen a lot of Chelsea fans knocking this tourny also.
We'll see if it will have any ill affects on you and city later on in the season.

Yeah this is true. I am worried about the effect this'll have on our season, but at least I can say we won the thing so there's compensation - and not just the literal 200mil quids worth of it.

Another scrapping top 4-5 by the skin of our teeth will do me this year

Contrived CWC bigger than Europa League

Last time the CWC was on it was 7 teams, playing a pre-ko round, 2 semi finals and a final. City won it playing 2 games. It has never been a top level trophy and just because FIFA chucked some Saudi money at it it doesn't make it a prestigious trophy over night. Big prize money, agreed!

If you think the CWC suddenly trumps the traditional European trophies then you need to give your head a wobble.

The relevant point Sandy was trying to argue is Chelsea's position in the food chain being behind Spurs. Us not only winning more but topping that trophy within a month during what's been a downspell in our recent history? Not a best look for that argument!

Obviously to Sandy this won't matter as history stopped a few decades ago (Chelsea's history at any rate) but I enjoy indulging in my fantasy reality where football continued after 2003

The qualify for Europa League most teams needed to finish high in their domestic leagues without winning anything

To qualify for this CWC (to my knowledge) teams needed to win something, in our case the Champions League

That's greater prestige in itself

Actually just realized Spurs might be in the next one? Winning Europa in 2025 will probably get a qualification slot?

Dortmund havent won a European trophy this century, they havent been domestic champions since 2012,

Salzburg won the intertoto cup in the 70s.

Benfica won the European Cup in the 60s

Inter Miami

Some are there on the strength of being domestic champions and Liverpool have managed that more recently than Chelsea. Barca more recently tan A.Madrid (who have never won the UCL and their last Europa was 15 years ago).

It's anyone's guess who gets in and why. Over time it may improve, the path to qualifying may become more clear and if the interest in it grows then may be it will become a serious trophy. But at the moment is seems rather contrived, almost a showcase or exhibition event with massive prize money,

Id be saying the same if Spurs were in it. Sure, we'd want to win it and it would be fun to rub in the face of rivals but really it doesnt have the prestige or teh attraction of the traditional trophies

As a Spurs fan I would not rate it above any of the traditional cups, except the League Cup, just like i'd rather us win the FA Cup than the Supercup this coming season.

I would rate it higher than Europa or Conference because of the pot. Contrived it may be but because of that money the players would care more about it (increased bonuses & such), and at the end of the day their actions form any event's prestige just as much as tradition does.

It's why I'm a firm believer comps like the FA Cup should grant a Champions League spot.

Tradition garners respect but it isn't a tangible reward system. The way you honor tradition is by offering incentives to keep it's relevance alive in the face of fresh competition

I havent really heard any footballers opinion on it. For sure if they are getting a big bonus for taking part/winning, that's one thing but actually that is not what makes a competition great.

Footballers don't dream about winning the UCL because of the bonus they'll get,

There have been plenty of dissenting voices about this competition format, especially from those coming from the player welfare angle. Klopp called it "the worst idea ever implemented"

I go back to me underlying point, in that no one really gave a toss about it before they made it a massive circus and threw massive prize money at it.

For me its a 'new money' competition that may develop into something meaningful but currently its only really the money that makes it an attractive competition to take part in.

Most internationals would give up their summer and play for free to win the World Cup. Not sure the same can be said of this one,

12 years ago hence why UEFA changed the rules as clubs were starting to play reserve sides in it rather than actively trying to win it. The fact that the games are played Thursday nights shows where the comp stands in the pecking order, clubs wouldn't play their best teams as they wanted players fit for their PL game on the Sunday.

2 years ago the CWC had 7 teams and 6 games played over a week and had a $16m prize pot and no one watched it and no one cared.

Now according to some its the most prestigious cups there is, behind the UCL.
