Never understood why people say when someone dies climbing a mountain, or crashing their race car etc. they say "at least they died doing something they love".

No Linda, I was doing something I really enjoy, the very last thing I wanted to do was die. I literally felt the most alive and least wanted to die.

The only time it would be appropriate to say that is if someone really, really liked suicide.

Then they died doing something they love.

Hopefully you die by choking on bread so they can say you died doing something you hate.

Is the point not simply that the last moment spent was something they enjoyed. Maybe that brings comfort to those who mourn him / her Maybe to others, like you, it means nothing what they were doing.

But ultimately most folk don't want to die unexpectedly, regardless of what they are doing.

As for 'really liked suicide'...........not sure that comes under 'enjoyable past-time'

Agree with most of the OP with exception of Breaking Bad, Pep’s Barca and Golf.

A golf major with a tight finish or a close Ryder Cup is elite sport.

Tbf he doesn't "get" horse racing, when it is probably the simplest sport to get. You put money on a big beast to run fast, if it wins you get all happy, if it loses you get miserable and chase your losses. Not sure what there is not to get about it!

Breaking Bad was a bit of a grind for the first couple of seasons. From memory I started watching it twice before giving up. Then stuck with it on the 3rd go and it was well worth it.

Better than the reverse when good series ruin themselves by the end which happens all the time, particularly with American series.

He is saying that he doesn't get the interest in horse racing, not that he doesn't understand how it works.

Why? You could say the interest is obvious in betting on which area of paint dries quickest? Doesn't mean I'd get the interest in paint drying.

Shakespeare - specially the 'comedies' - someone needs to look up comedy........
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sure what we laugh at now won't be funny in 400 years. Plus "comedy" in the Shakespearean sense wasn't just about humour but about marriage plots and other conventions.

There are a million things to bet on, so why the horses? Is what I am saying. Why not cell formation? Number of grains of sand on a beach etc.

Bread. It's too dry. Especially in the morning. Inedible.
