Lammens is the opposite of what we need. He’s gonna be the goalkeeping version of Rasmus. Hopefully we can still get Martinez and have Lammens be the back up for a while.

GK version of Rasmus? Ensuring no goals are scored? Great stuff then!

I would, he would be no less shakey than Bayindir tbf.

If there’s no new keeper ready, I would 100% start Heaton against City.

They have stuck to the line that it would be one or the other. I don't know much of Lammens, but he needs to be a really strong character more than anything else. Arrogant. Can he be that at such a young age. Obviously he needs to be talented etc, but it's that strong self-belief and mentality which hasn't been tested. Perhaps Martinez was never truly an option, but it feels more like fingers crossed for Lammens rarher than total confidence

Because all young players are quivering mice? Clearly, the pressure of playing for United is an argument for signing a keeper who is both experienced and an arrogant priсk, and it's a risk factor with a youngster. But Casillas was Real's starting keeper at 18. Neuer was one of the best keepers in the CL at a younger age than Lammens. De Gea was more than ready at 23. It's very valid to question whether he's good enough to start (and whether we can risk Onana in the meantime) but no one on this forum has any idea how good he really is, nor how mentally strong he is.

I for one am shocked to hear about this. Really out of character for such a decent bloke.

This was misunderstood as a mark of disrespect. Suarez was spitting on him as a means to marinate his flesh before taking a chomp. Which is not considered rude in Uruguayan culture.

All true, We've accepted £20m for Antony, no one here was saying that was a fair price for him a couple months ago, I have also always maintained Betis do infact have the money to buy him and are being cheap (which they are). Sancho has struggled all summer to find a club and has reportedly turned down a few because of wages, these Villa remours are very promising though. We are very fortunate that Nico wanted assurances he would be registered as he was clearly Barca's first choice with Diaz second, had Nico joined we would have been screwed with Rashford.

2 months ago none of us had any idea that we had the kind of money we've ended up spending. We all were told that any purchases after Mbembo would only come after sales (which turned out to be nonsense). And my comments until that point were always in response to us reportedly needing to sell Rashford, Sancho and Antony.

That's the thing though - Casillas was the exception to the rule in terms of goalies. The same could be said of Neuer.

We can only hope that Lammens can prove to be anywhere near that level, and also has the strength of character and mentality to cope. It seems that Onana will still be first choice with Lammens as back-up which worries me, because Onana is not the answer. As you say, we just don't know and that is the risk - if we were a great team, I would say take that risk and play him as first choice which is what we could do with de Gea, who took a while to settle in, but came into a great team so we could cope with that.

He could turn out to be an immense character, the greatest gk ever, but it is a risky decision if we just go with him and Onana, even if he turns out to be very good

That's my point. Saying it's a risky move is very reasonable. Saying 'Lammens is the opposite of what we need' is overconfident.

Can’t see how it means Onana will remain number 1 with Lammens as back up, Onana isn’t even number 1 now and has been dropped the last few league games.

Wow Lindelof and Sancho both to Villa? Have we become their feeder club

Could be a long season for them

You would have thought Villa would have seen Lindelof over the years.
