The likes of Macca and Dennis Law should have been retired a long time ago.

It's actually quite sad watching it now, especially when in its day it was a cracking show.

It was rank rotten.

We'll parcel all these comments up and send them to BBC Scotland. They're churning out the same old line up for Hogmanay every year and quite clearly it's had it's day. Glad I missed it.

The fergie sketch??

I did have a smile about the thought of chick young disguising himself as a blonde bookie assistant to get an interview with ally!

there was no excuse for that. Watson is a buffoon. His impressions have always been rotten....now his material is too. The Royal Bodyguard was better. Happy New Year

Lex, it`s not only in the UK. Germany and Switzerland have it too, and it`s more expensive than the UK. Sadly.

Bye the way, a good New Year to all.

At least not living in Scotland, I don`t get to see Only and Excuse. I left nearly ten years ago, and it was already on it`s way down in my opinion.

I had to pay 460 Francs for the year, just over 300 quid !! I don`t even get swiss TV as I have satellite, which makes it worse, but it`s unavoidable. And the viewing isn`t that great.

I watched 3Sat yesterday, as they have concerts running for 24 hours on particular holidays which is always good. Beats Only an Excuse by the sound of things.

Firstly, I'd like to wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful year ahead. Everybody.

Sadly, OAE is symptomatic of the general malaise which is Festive television. Incredibly, we are heading back to the scotty dugs and shortbread days as New Year television has become almost an embarrassment. I'm sure there are enough smart folk around these pages who could write far better material than some of the tired cliches which seem to be regurgitated year upon year.

Anyway, in homage to my username I sat alone. Mrs. Camus has gone to her brothers in London. I have another 3 days of solitude, punctured only by walking our dog, betting on the horses and football, and much reading.

There's nothing like living life right on the edge folks eh!

Good Luck and Good Health.

Camus.

I actually missed about ten minutes of it as I went to the kitchen to prepare some grub the second time his Denis Law character appeared. Somebody should tell Watson that apart from the fact Law is seldom seen on TV nowadays, an impression of a forgetful rambling bore is more boring to watch than it apparently is to perform. And McAvennie likes the burds - we get it! I don't actually want OAE to get scrapped, I just want some new writers and new performers to bring this show into the 21st century.

The sad thing is, it's still the best thing on TV on Hogmanay. A Tony Hayers type of person is desperately needed at BBC Scotland to clear out the deadwood. I'm glad we watched the fireworks display on BBC HD instead of the dreary old bearded drunkards with Jackie Bird.
