Sachin and Dravid to retire after English series.Surely after such outstanding careers, they will not want to end in such a note.Laxman will face the axe and perhaps we have already seen the last of him.Tragic.

A bit harsh on laxman, he's not the only one falling short. when will the others take responsibilities and accountability for their failings.

Whats indias fixture list for this year viru, is it just england end of october? what after that?

Sachin probably will prolong a bit but Dravid will say GOODBYE after the 'retribution' against England and Laxman will play his last test at Adelaide.

its newzealand first, then india in srilanka, then england in india, then at the start of 2013 australia in india.

Most graceful exits that come to my mind are:

1) Imran Khan- leading his nation to win the most coveted crown in cricket ( and within near future will lead the country towards the epitome of success)

2) Steve Waugh
3) Glenn Mcgrath
4) Shane Warne

? Imran Khan has never won the Ashes...

Sachin should not even think about retirement. He is still our best batsman.
Dravid and Laxman should probably retire because they clearly are not enjoying this, and I don't see any reason for them to continue.

I think Dravid still has something to offer but when you`ve got Sehwag giving his wicket away for next to nothing in rapid time its bound to put pressure on the rest...

Sehwag MUST go, Laxman will go too I presume, Sachin will give it another year at least.

It was only a few month ago in England that Dravid was showing the rest of his team how to bat...

Dravid did very well there... but his last 4 years have been well below par. I think it's time where seniors need to be playing their best to justify their place in the team. Even if they play as good as the replacements or even slightly better, I would give young kids a chance.

i back 2074's statement, and will always stick by it. When/if England win the world cup, i will not care, just as I did not care when England won the T20.

posted on 15/1/12

jezzer.... hmm so you wouldnt care if england won any kind of world cups? world cup win is a big event for any country. it might not be for you because you country has never even come close to winning this coveted cup.

I don't watch ODIs, i never have, I never will.

The world cup would be irrelevant to me, whether England were good at ODIs or not.

I think because the Ashes has so much history and meaning, it will always be the priority for England and the Aussies.

The T20 WC win meant absolutely nothing to me and most English fans, just has a ODI WC win would`nt. I didnt care when we beat India in the ODI`s at home and I didnt care when we lost the return series in India.

I can see why other nations (mainly the sub-continent) find it so important, not having anything anywhere near the sheer intensity of the battle for the "little urn".

I would like to see what the Aussie`s on JA606 think about the ODI WC v the Ashes in terms of importance.

Ashes > ODI WC

Pakistan- India test series were followed with as much intensity as the Ashes if not more but due to obvious reasons for the last 2 decades, we rarely have these 2 sides playing tests against each other. But if u rewind back to 99 ,90 ( in which Tendulkar andWaqar played debut tests),86(Gavaskar Farewell) and 82 series ( Imran destroying India's batting lineup), I am sure you be surprised to learn that it was followed with incomparable passion.

Only because you want to kill each other..

The Ashes IS cricket...

Ashes > Pak v Ind

WorldCup > Ashes

BTW... Did you see when England were awarded the mace for being rank1 in tests? It was embarrassing to say the least ... But getting our little urn back means EVERYTHING

Keep your test mace, ODI and T20 wc cack, give me the Ashes anyday

ODI = fancy coloured tops and silly dancers..

World Cup > Ashes? bwhahahahahahahaha!

Kids...

not every fan is an english or australian.... its stupid argument that ashes is greater than anything. Odi cricket has also produced one of the most epic encounters. Its just that england havent ever done something epic in that format, and till now they havent done anything special in cricket itself. Its just in the past 2 years where england have become a good test side, which is yet to do well in the subcontinent and hold on to that no.1 spot for a long time. who can forget some of the matches of india vs australia in sharjah,? who can forget a match of pakistan vs india in sharjah? who can forget the recent pakistan india match in the world cup?

What is the best form of cricket? all the best players and real cricket fans with more than a couple of hours attention span that arnt seduced by silly marketing ploys seem to think its test cricket

What is the best test series on Earth? the Ashes

I thank you
