Monty has replaced Bresnan, Bopara in for Morgan.

bopara will replace morgan in the team. if strauss plays 2 spinners in sri lanka, panesar will keep his place ahead of bresnan. it will a be horses for courses selection nothing what big bres has done.

Please don't mention Morgan, it makes me cringe

but bopara is being used as first change bowler isnt he ?

how does he add as much to the team as bresnan, assuming 2 other seamers and 2 spinners ? i just dont understand it. i am not in the anti ravi club, but bresnan has proven his ability in the team with both bat and ball. it seems incredible to me. if they dont want bresnan batting at 6, then bat prior there with bresnan at 7.

Bresnan in for Bopara please.

Bowls better and probably bats better.

Prior can hold his own at 6.

Broad / Bres at 7/8, you could have either in as they are both capable of the role.

i havent been following it Murdoch. is this still an option, or does it look like they have settled for bopara and not bresnan ?

He just always seems to be the fall back man, when he's never done enough to hold on to the place when he has it.

I can't work it out.

its england's obsession with playing 7 recognised batsman thats the problem. it must be clear that bresnan is the better cricketer, and as you point out - quite likely the better batter.

to go into a test with bopara as 3rd seamer seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

You don't trust our selectors? They have been superb for years and will find the right players to play against Sri Lanka. We are going to win two nil whatever team we pick

Do we know if Bres is fully fit now?

Well that's a debate about 5 bowlers or 4 bowlers then. Considering our batting woes in Pakistan, i'de suggest 6 batsmen is the way to go. Bopara is certainly not in there as first change. Panesar and Swann will bowl the bulk of the overs after the opening salvos from Jimmeh and Broad (if fit).

It's amazing to think that England, yes England have the quality of Finn and Bresnan sitting on the sidelines.

Watching on TV I can't see that Bopara is a better bowler than Trott. If he is better it's marginal.
