After bragging to ps3 mates saying that my xbox has not broke for 4 years, I now experience a problem.
nothing to do with the red rings of death, for some reason my xbox is not recognising disks, I put the disk in and it says "reading disk" then a few seconds later it says "open tray", which implies the xbox is empty, Any experts know what to do in this situation and how to solve it? Or will I have to get a new xbox, but at least i get to keep the hard drive
any help is much appreciated.

Does that actually work? Move the reader down fixes it?

I've had a total of 4 xboxs and 4 ps3s. So for me it's a tie. Although the Xbox always broke after a year or so after use. I had amazingly bad luck when buying a ps3. They were broken out of the box. The laser was not working properly and would cut out audio ever 30 seconds or so and then comeback and repeat. Neither system is perfect. Plus I've had a few friends get that yellow light of death on ps3.

Try hitting your Xbox, that works for me when my Xbox makes noises and a few of my mates have done the same thing when their disc hasn't worked too.

When I ordered my PS3, they sent me three, all 60g which can run ps2 + ps1 games.
So I've broken 1, switched to the other and have one spare

can you not swap out the drive in an xbox?
sounds to me like it's the drive that's on it's way out rather than it being dead... for a ps3 you can swap it out pretty cheaply and easily.
