Solskjaer & Scouting

Just been reading the BB Gossip column and apparently Wolves are interested in appointing Ole as their new manager. What are peoples views on this – do you think it could be a move too early for him – either in the Premiership (or the Championship if Wolves do go down)

What do wolves fans think? Would they welcome him – is there someone they’d prefer?

Secondly – I only recently found out that Alan Carr (the comedian) his dad is the chief scout at Newcastle and whilst is not solely responsible for all the players they have bought recently must obviously have an input into who they sign and what they look for – I don’t have much (any) inside knowledge on the scouting set up at OT but do you think it may be worth approaching him or shaking up the current set up at the club to improve on what hasn’t been a great return on recent findings (Diouf/Obertan/Bebe etc)

obertan is at newcastle.

LOL after we knew what we knew about him at UTD

Would have been a good oppurtunity for Ole had he been offered it in January before the window was closed. I'm sure Sir Alex would have helped him out with a player or 2.

Not now though, or in the Championship.

Haha – I didn’t think about it like that – I suppose at the price he was worth the gamble. I believe Jaap Stam is one of our scouts – but that his area is south America?

I know all clubs will have their gems and their duds but recently Newcastle just seem to be turning up player after player – Cisse I think has 5 goals in 5 games now, Ba has been a revelation for them, Ben Arfa has done well since returning from his Injury and Tiote, cabaye and Collocini have all had good seasons.

I wonder if and no disrespect to Newcastle here if those players would have performed as well at a United or a City – would the pressure be too much for them,

Also what sort of role has Alan Pardew had in their performances this year as well, would they have done so well under another coach?

I guess if wolves do go down and they lose lots of their players expectations for automatic promotion may be eased and so he could go there under no pressure. However, I think there could be premiership jobs he may prefer at places like Everton or Swansea that could become available once the England/Rednapp situation has been resolved as I feel David Moyes and Brendan Rogers could be in line for the Spurs role

OGS will likely honour his contract with Molde, that is just the kind of guy he is.

Obertan wasn't really a bad signing, provided decent back up for a few years and wages aside we made a small profit on him.

Diouf seems to be doing well in Germany as well so must at least be a decent player. Bebe is probably a waste of money but I didn't think we actually scouted the guy... or did we?

In the same timeframe we bought in the likes of Jones, Smalling, Young, De Gea and Hernandez... probably missed a few there but I am pretty happy with those...

Lindegaard as well, decent keeper.

Whilst im sure its tempting to move to a new challenge – remaining at the same club would provide him with experience of putting in place a structure at the club – including youth team set up, scouting, training etc he would have to learn with the expectation as they won the league last year, possibility of losing his better players to bigger clubs, brining through younger players, making signings as well as players perhaps becoming less hungry or less motivated. I hope he stays at Molde and “off the radar” for the time being – I also read that he promised his family they would spend more time in his home Country after being in Manchester for so long

Yeah – I mean I don’t want this article to descend into a Obertan/Diouf/Bebe bashing or anything like that – like you when Obertan arrived I was quite excited and was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt – as with all young players his decision making was not quite there and he seemed to struggle when low on confidence. Bebe and Diouf sort of fall into the same boat although I never really saw any glimpses of talent with bebe (as much as I wanted to) – although he was apparently doing ok at Galatasary before he did his knee in. Diouf I think will forge the best career out of the three of them – he has good pace, decent in the air and if he gets enough first team football in a team suited to his strengths he will score goals.

I guess that’s the thing about scouting – especially for a club like ours, you can scout for talent but its a lot harder to scout for mentality.
