So, we’re seen a s second favourites for promotion behind Huddersfield this season. Not sure if I’d agree with that just yet, maybe if we pull off the 4 signings I’m hoping for in Semedo, koumas, Dyer and Chunky Mellor.
I think Huddersfield would be worth a punt but they need to keep hold of their best players. I still can’t see Charlton doing too much as their signings aren’t all that spectacular, I dare say there may be a surprise package in Chesterfield, can’t see the blunts doing too much.
Who else do you think may come to the front, MK Dons, Bournemouth or Preston maybe??

Yep - Dyer, Semedo and Mellor would (and I think will) make us into a real strong looking side, on paper.

Hi Bradford. Yes, I'm on here and one of the other forums. I can see match threads starting in different places next season. However, the laundry tactics will continue lol. In fact I've just realised, the build-up is starting!

As we stand now, we are no better than last season. we have lost Miller, Hinds, Heff, Potter, Teale, Mellor, Spurr & Batth and gained Prutton & Bennett.
However, if we get Batth & Mellor back and add Dyer & Semedo then we will probably be top eight.
Charlton have made several good buys, particularly Green & are likely to go up. Huddersfield have the best squad. United will finish about half way.

Oh no, have we sold Rob Jones already??? I was sure we'd signed him too. well if thats the case Steve, I might as well sell my season ticket, looks like the season's already been sorted!
Seriously! you mention we've lost Hinds, Heff and Miller - i see that loss as a gain! Batth only played a handful of games so to say we've lost him is ridiculous! Spurr had lost his way and needed to move (although I liked him) Mellor, yep fair one, scored 13 League goals, but still only a squad player. Teale wasn't worthy of a seat in my car, never mind the bench!
Basically Steve, the players you mention as a LOSS are what we usually call 'deadwood' It's what this club has needed for YEARS!
We are now signing players to fill the positions which need strengthening! Not just any old journeyman!
Top 8??? Pah, if Meggo gets the players he's after then we'll make the top 6 if not top 2!
Oh and please do tell me who these amazing Charlton players are? I'd never heard of Danny Green until 5 weeks ago, their best player is coming to us!!!!!!!!!

Charlton will finish about 10th. No threat whatsoever.

Ginger, I agree with you there. Getting rid of some of the players that have left I think actually improves us. Yes the squad is still thin in some key places but over the next couple of weeks this will be sorted.
As regards Charlton, they have bought 10 new players of which Green isthe only one I have heard of and that is because we were interested!! They may turn out to be challengers in the end, only time will tell but I really see little to be afraid of from them at the moment. Huddersfield should challenge again but will be hurt if they lose Pilkington as expected.
Megson needs to get the players in and then we can properly assess where we stand but as has been seen many times before a good team on paper may not translate to the field and vice versa!!

Once again, the man in the Y-fronts hits the nail squarely on the head. Totally agree.
Huddersfield lost their best player - Pilkington - today, which is a big bonus.
Oh no!!! We've not signed 9 players in a week!! OH THE HUMANITY!!

Y Fronts, you miss my point.
We finished last season like a reasonable mid-table side by beating the poor sides until the Walsall, Bristol Rovers & Exeter matches. I was comparing our squad now to the one that finished last season. We already had Rob Jones then and Danny Batth was a regular.
I am not saying that the players that we have lost are a major loss, only that we have lost them. If you compare our squad now with the squad that finished last season, it is markedly weaker.
Having said that, there are reasons for encouragement. Primarily, that by getting rid of so many bench warmers, it is clear that Megson has a plan and has several players lined up. Dyer & Semedo will lift us to top eight but we need another striker and another CM to lift us to promotion in my opinion.
I posted last January that if we wanted to go up, we should sign Danny Green. He was the best midfielder in L1. He is young, scored 13 goals from midfield in a struggling side & is a free kick specialist. Basically, he was the most sought after player by L1 sides. Charlton got him which gives them an edge. They are building a good side and Chris Powell is very well connected.
It seems that fans fall into one of two camps. Either, we haven't signed ten players so life is terrible or don't panic, Megson will get it sorted. The truth is somewhere between the two. At the moment our squad is paper thin and only average but four quality acquisitions could lift us from mid-table to promotion.
It is foolhardy to go overboard either way about our prospects until we see who is brought in over the next few weeks.
