Penultimate Challenge

So, we are almost at the final count down, indeed for some tomorrow is just that. County Ground will be almost sold out for sure, barring away capacity and a carnival atmosphere guaranteed.

With players back in from the cold and no significant injury problems reported, it will be interesting as to who gets to play in the quest for the last home win of the season.

Paolo diCanio has made no secret of his desire for the club to be promoted as champions and as such will he finally break his duck of bad luck in crucial games. After losing twice to the dreaded Oxford and then again at Wembley, will he finally get this pinnacle of the season right, and record a home win, three points, and Town promoted as Champions.

Very late on at a council meeting Port Vale have managed to get rid of a lot of their debt, don't forget they got 10 points deducted, to turn them into a mid table team, instead of being close to promotion contenders. They will not be an easy push over and come to County Ground with the clear intention of being party spoilers, according to their manager, the rather gritty Micky Adams. Anyone who thinks it will be just a case of turning up, is in for a surprise. Do not forget we have been struggling to score for the last 5/6 games against a good team.

Tomorrow, as I mentioned above, will be the last hurrah of the season for many, as Town journey north to Bradford City for their last game this season a week tomorrow. A last chance for many to cheer and say good-bye to some players before the mass clear out that will undoubtedly ensue, as diCanio once more strips the team down, and fashions another, for a further promotion next season. Fond fare wells, lots of cheers hopefully and a good day, followed by many raiding the bookies for winnings, late parties, and a few hang-overs, and a chairman who needs remembering for sticking his neck out, playing the odds, and backing his man, every inch of the way, Mr Wray, we are indebted, without doubt.

We are up. For me, it doesn't matter too much if we are not champions. It would be nice if we were. I can't go to this game, but might go to the Bradford game, just for a day out & visit my old haunts. I am just glad that we don't have to endure play offs. So, despite problems, a job well done by pdc.
As for being indebted, I think that the club should be grateful to the supporters. After a disaster last season & a poor start to this, many might have deserted what looked like a sinking ship. But, they didn't 'cos it's their club, thro' good or bad.

Congratulations on becoming champions, looking forward to seeing your team at Valley Parade next week.

It's probably the only League 2 stadium where your manager has played. He scored, but is best remembered for his tantrums over his desire to take a penalty in the West Ham 5 Bradford City 4 match.

Fantastic day coupled with an outstanding team performance. Absolutely too much to record here if commenting about the whole day.

The team performance cannot be understated, and the contribution of Bostock cannot go not mentioned. His contributions to the goals scored, possession and general overall patterns of play cannot be under estimated, without doubt a combative but attacking midfielder with a good sense of perspective and priority. If you wanted a man of the match to hang your cap on, you could try the man that promised the faithful, the game of the season, and this time, delivered.
