i quit smoking nearly 2 years ago and the difference is staggering- i ran up snowdon last summer, llanberis to the summit and back, 3000 ft ascent and 10 miles, took about 2 hours- nearly half an hour quicker than last time i did it.... you'l be well chuffed with yourself if you stay packed in.

"...in them days lucozade was for sick people in hospital...." It's true, you always knew someone was ill if they had the owd orange bottle with 'em!
View: I sincerely hope the new French prez doesn't do a Richard Dreyfuss (Mr Hollande's hopeless) as it could have ramifications (did you see what I did there?) for our investments. They're already looking like a bloody rollercoaster crossed with a yo-yo. Not sure he'll get along with Merkel, so I see trouble ahead

Ilkeston - I used nothing more than my willpower. Its a mental thing, and was a habit. I knew I could stop if I really made myself, so I did. I had a bit of rage for the first few days but I'm a week in now and feeling good, gym performance has improved already, not coughing as much, waking up a lot more sprightly in the morning etc etc, definately worth doing.

Ilkeston, I know this might sound a bit odd but used a simple trick to stop. Like Harper said, its a mental thing. All I did was everytime I thought I wanted a cigarette i just said to my self ' I dont smoke '
Honestly, I know it sounds daft but it really helped. I smoked 20-40 a day for years and I just stopped.
Good luck with giving up, its well worth the couple of days of anger issues.
Harper, thanks for the breakdown, thats roughly what I'd worked out but I'll amend the routine I had to match what you'd set out. I sense pain on the horizon.

Oh it hurts, I'm hobbling round work like an invalid, I keep having to stretch my legs every 20 mins to stop them seizing up. The momentary sense of relief is almost sexual.

Another thing that has helped me stop is the cost. I sat and thought about how much I spent on cigs each month, I smoked embassy no.1 which are near on £8 a pack, so worked out I was spending about £150 a month on them which is just silly.
