Now I know a lot on here were not Leeds fans when Mr Revie was manager but do people think his style of management would work today?

The Don was ahead of his time, but would his ideas get spread sufficiently to the squad of players if they were only there for 2-3 years? How many Bremners would he need to find over, say, ten years if he was around today?

Don would flourish today.
He'd find it easier to keep fringe players interested, his man management would make players an families not want to go anywhere else.
Of course there would be differences, players might not stay as long, money would be more of an issue and they'd play wii not bowls but he was a special manager an would b successful whatever the era.

Don didnt just build a team he built a city.
Saw a programme about Clough on ESPN this week filmed about 1970 when they had just got promoted to Div1, they asked him who the best side were and he said Leeds, they are brilliant, wonder if it was the drink that turned him against Don and Leeds.

A lot of people dont realise that Clough campaigned
for Revie to be England manager in his newspaper
column in the early 70s!
Leeds were the best team certainly in the UK, if not
Europe, in the early 70s...it was in Clough's ambitious
nature to challenge them...he was a great manager
in my eyes...on reflection it was a mistake though to
appoint him and also a mistake to sack him...the
story of success in the 70s would have carried on
had he stayed...

agree njs. revie was very clever to look after his players like a father, knowing all their families, kids etc, that gave him the respect they still hold for him today, playing bingo, carpet bowls and dominoes in the woodman after training,as was said, difficult to imagine players wanting to do that these days but i think it was important for team spirit, difference with fergie is that dons mistake later was not replacing players as they got older, loyalty was what ended the glory years

Thing is it was a vote of no confidence from the players to sack him. The board had to sack him otherwise the players would have started to leave at the end of the contracts. Many were only there for Revie.

Don Revie was an intelligent football man, he would have been as ideal in todays game as he was then, he was way ahead of his time. Wenger is from the same mould.
Brian Clough was the ideal man to take over from him, he was the bright young thing at the time. He went on to prove with Forest what he could do...!
I think he needed Peter Taylor with him though. Had they both come to Leeds the more personable Taylor could have smoothed a few of the wrinkles and they may have survived and prospered.
We will sadly never know.

In his thirteen years in charge, Revie guided Leeds to two Football League First Division titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, one Football League Second Division title and one Charity Shield. He also guided them to three more FA Cup Finals, two more FA Cup Semi-Finals, one more Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Semi-Final, one European Cup Winners' Cup Final and one European Cup Semi-Final. The team also finished second in the Football League First Division five times, third once and fourth twice.
Eh?
