Tax Case Titbits

This morning I was speaking to someone who knows what the decision is going to be for the BTC and the bassa wouldn't tell me

However, this person, who is a tax case lawyer and sits on these kind of hearings, did tell me a few things of interest. First of all, my source assured me that Rangers have no idea what the result of the case is. They will find out at the same time as us, as the decision is posted on the internet and can be accessed by anyone at that time. This puts to bed any question that the consortium buying Rangers already know the result of the BTC.

The only way Rangers would find out before everyone else is if there was a request for anonymity in some of the evidence. In that case there would be a 42 day delay in which solicitors for both HMRC and Rangers would go through the decision and select areas to be blacked out of the published decision. I have been told this is definitely NOT the case and that no such request has been made.

I was told however that the decision will come out "soon". The person wouldn't tell me a date though.

A few other bits of information came out. My source enquired about the decision as they are going to be sitting on a similar hearing for another Scottish club beggining the middle of June. Again the person wouldn't tell me which club it was, apart from to assure me that it's not a Dundee club.

The SFL itself is also due to face a tax hearing shortly.

My source likened the situation facing football clubs to that of the fishing industry not long ago. At that time HMRC found an issue that had been exploited with one business. They then went through every single business in that industry to see if they could get anyone else for it. The same process is happening now in football. I'm sure there are a few chairman sitting a little uncomfortably now as they wait for a chap on the door from the taxman.

I know this is a little short of juicy information but I thought i'd share it anyway.
