Windsor Park

Was at WP last night for the Harry Gregg testimonial - was great to see a really strong squad over, great touch from the club.

While it was great to have united there i couldn't help but feel at little embarrassed by the state of the ground last night. I am a block booker for the Kop for the NI games so its not like i haven't been to WP for years but last night left me thinking what needs improved? and how would it work?

I know the proposed redevelopment has been given the all clear and will is due to start Aug 2013. The railway (already gone) and south stands will both be knocked down and rebuilt which cant come quick enough.

I was in the North Stand last night and even it is becoming run down. It is due to be touched up as well as the Kop.

The big problem is space in the Area. There is no where to expand too because of housing, railway and business parks behind 3 of the stands. This lead me to think what other options would be? My only theory was to build down into the ground like at Hampton Park or Old Trafford. Would that be an option?

My other thought was about making that stadium completely rounded (look modern). Again this would be a space issue at both ends of the North Stand but could be achieved if done properly.

I also think it would be a good idea for Linfield to move out of Windsor for one season to allow for quicker completion of any work. They could easily ground share with the crues like carrick did this season.

All in all i was never a fan of the Maze stadium idea but did think we needed to move from Windsor - Musgrave park or Titanic Quarter would have been my suggestions for space, transport links and still within walking distance of the City Centre. However the IFA where stuck in a contract (who signs a 100 year contract???) so we are where we are at Windsor probably for the rest of my days....any thoughts on this?

McGuinness said as much a while back and was hammered for it.

It all boils down to the love in the IFA have with Linfield.

Scannell scored. Thought they would have stuck a few highlights on after the excellent Gregg docu then I remembered it was BBC NI.

the whole team played well i thought. But bearing in mind united where in 2nd gear and could have picked the pace up ten fold at any time.
