Season Summary - Danny Fox

On the 11th August 2011 Saints made their third signing of the summer bringing in Left Back Danny Fox from Burnley for a fee of £1.8 million. This was seen as a real statement. Former Celtic left back Fox and once capped by Scotland was seen as many to be our new first choice LB. I personally rated Dan Harding highly and would have felt very comfortable with him in defence, but after the first game you could see he was even better than Harding.

Fox has a mean left foot and can pick out a cross perfectly and has impressed me all season with constantly consistent displays. I was most impressed with how he played at fratton park, looked a class act and also managed to cope with pressure of the south coast derby. Although he didn't score any he set up many goals and was an integral part of our promotion winning team!

With already some experience from his time with Burnley in the Premier League, I have no hesitations about him being our first choice LB and believe he will have a very good season.

Here's to a good season with our number one left back

he's quite composed but a terrible defender imo. he was punted back down south after half a season up here

I personally think he was a good signing and he does deliver a decent ball. For me def better then Harding and to be honest not an area of concern next season.

I must add that away to Bristol this season I saw their winger absolutely tear him to pieces, he was just backing off and backing off then getting rinsed at every twist and turn. I haven't seen it happen since to that extent that I can recall but it does concern me that if a Bristol player that I'ver never heard of (who was good) can do that what can a Premiership winger do?

I'm hearing good things about Luke Shaw so maybe Harding will be leaving, Foxy could be pushed for his place if the rumours are true about the interest he's received as he must special to have not kicked a first team football yet he's getting head hunted by the big boys!

Anyway, I'm happy with Fox at the moment and I feel he is another player that can take that next step

I feel Fox makes one perfect cross for every 10 useless ones, but the perfect one and the great free kicks are what stick in the mind. You can spend a match muttering 'Bloody Fox..bloody Fox' and then he silences you with a decent pass and you feel mean moaning!

I like Harding for his great tackles and his attacking runs to the goal line but I know some people don't like him. Maybe as you say, we should play Luke Shaw and stir things up a bit.
